The Contract - John Cusack, Morgan Freeman
I saw this flick sitting on the shelf at the local Blockbuster. Freeman? Cusack? Why haven't I heard of this, I thought...then I rented it, and I found out why.
What a terrible movie.

It went straight-to-video. With Cusack and Freeman, I doubt it was intended to go that route (like your current Snipes, Van Damme or Seagal flicks), but perhaps it was just so bad the suits decided to cut their loses like with Edison Force, also starring Freeman.

Damn, two of my favorite actors; how could it miss? I almost rented this two days ago after seeing a preview on another DVD. I'm glad I didn't, I couldn't take the heartbreak.

I heard Millenium Pictures (which produced the film) couldn't find a major studio to distribute the movie hence it going straight to DVD. Personally I didn't think it was as horrible as you were saying...There is some good action scenes.

It's not horrible...but it's not very good, and not very plausible.
Freeman makes the most of his part, although he's given some silly dialogue and a character who changes personalities depending on the needs of the scene.
It's worth a rental, just don't expect much going in...

Just saw this myself. It was ok. Had a couple of good stunts, including a really neat one involving a (CG?) helocopter. What had me looking sideways was that since Cusack is a kickboxing guy in real life, and his character is an ex cop, you'd think we may have got a couple of good fights.. oh well, Its not an awful way to spend a couple of hours.

I don't make it to the video store often, but I have noticed a surge of direct-to-video movies on the shelves with well-known stars in the past few years or so.
