As much as I truly love DS9, even I can say it was perfect. But the characters definitely became like friends to me.

Raiders is the first thing that came to mind.

its funny, when someone asks me what my favorite films are, i mention films like his girl friday, the last detail, the godfather, apocalypse now, and then when i say "the big lebowski" people look at me like i am insane for mentioning the big lebowski. Afterall, its just a film about a guy who wants to get his rug back. I guess you can make the same comment about "the jerk", his yellow thermos meant everything to him. Then again i forget most of that movie, but there was definitely a yellow thermos in there.

I dont see why a comedy cant be one of the best films ever made, but i guess it depends on your taste, i mean people in france think that jerry lewis is a comedic genius.

Although i am starting to think that the reason why the fench love lewis so much is because they see him as a symbol of everything wrong with america- brash, overzelous, and idiotic. Sort of how we in america like pepe la pieu(the cartoon of the french skunk who is pompous, overbearing, skirtchasing asshole).

oh and i just read people talking about star trek ds9. wow i never liked that series much, and i am a sci fi nerd. But again, to each his own.

A few other films that came to mind:

hard boiled
ran
children of men
delicatessen
the dinner game
fargo
south park the movie
citizen kane
the harry potter films.
braveheart

There were perfectly executed, they are all excellent. flawless films. Probably more that i am forgetting. Almost all of the ones people mentioned are flawless as well

With regards to Raiders of the Lost Ark being perfect--

Don't you think Karen Allen is a little weak? ...as an actress.

How about Meryl Streep or Kathleen Turner as Marion.

If you like City of God make sure you see the TV series spin-off, City of Men. It is easily one of the best TV series that I've ever seen (not that this thread is the appropriate place to say so). It is fantastic on numerous levels.

what would you have done differently? My biggest problem is that the actors look way to old to be playing 12/13 year olds.

People are talking about raiders of the lost ark being perfect. I liked the movie, but i would not call it flawless. I thought much of it was formulaic.

I forgot

chinatown
top hat
mullholland drive
requiem of a dream

Magnolia - Perhaps not a "perfect" movie (as I believe that is unattainable), but highly satisfying and moving to me.

I would have to agree for a modern sensibility "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is the most perfect movie I have seen.

For comedies, I would add"

"Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House" -just perfect and truly real in every way.

Magnolia IS a perfect movie...

...for me to poop on!

My pick for this thread, is actually a television show. But if you play all the episodes back to back they work together like a great extended film. That show is Lost.
