Didn't mean to offend you... did you really not know that it was based on the Chinese movie, or were you just surprised that a remake made so much money? Not surprising that the domestic movie was a bigger hit here, considering the talent involved and the fact that the original is in another language.

I did not know it was based on IA (and I'm a movie nut, have both Netflix and Blockbuster subscriptions). I thought The Departed got more credit than it deserved while IA got not enough, so I thought I'd share my discovery. Yes, I was stupid to misread Infernal, and yes, I should have searched first. But you guys attacked me like a pack of rabid dogs.

I'm sure most didn't mean anything by it, basically it's a subject that has been discussed ad nauseum, so you gotta understand where they're coming from.

You've got a bunch of repressed cinéastes on here (or cinéasses?) so don't take it personally.

Infernal Affairs did get a lot of love here on the forums beforehand so a lot of people were at least tangientially aware that The Departed was based on it.

I am with you all the way on this. I personally hated The Departed and thought it was a poor, drawn-out imitation of Infernal. But to each his own.

There's a good mix of movie buffs, geeks, and creeps on here. And plenty of all-around nerds.

Keep the typos to a minimum.

Never talk in extremes (BEST EVAR!!!).

Make sure that you say "IMO" where you can fit it in.

Groucho rarely makes a straight comment.

Combatting an argument with baracine is INCREDIBLY difficult.

Make your own bitch early on, or expect ot be someone else's.

Don't worry - the bark is worse than the bite here. And getting the name of the movie a little wrong plus completely missing that it gets fully mentioned in the opening credits of The Departed - well... a person shouldn't be all that surprised by then getting a response like this (in this forum or any other forum).

Did you know Psycho is a complete ripoff of Psycho? Then didn't they rip THAT off by doing American Psycho, like 2 years later? the nerve of these people.

When Scorsese thanked Andrew Lau at the Oscars, I'm like, who the fuck is Andrew Lau, and why does a visionary like Scorsese, the man behind original work like Cape Fear, have to thank some foreign schmuck?

This month's pull-out poster of Alain Resnais is just dreamy...

I think the real lesson here is to never go "Hay you guys did you know random movie fact? Who knew?!" on a major movie-based message board. If you know something, somebody else learned it a long time ago, and they're going to let you know it.

(plus, this was ultra-super-wizard-level common knowledge, which definitely didn't help)

That kind of sounds like the eugenics program that was going on in Maine that Hitler observed. I'll add that people who type in all CAPS should be deleted.

Back on topic: Yes, I did know that it was a remake of Infernal Affairs.

No no no no! He said RIPOFF, not Remake. How dare he even get an Oscar for such a massive rip off piece!

I watched Internal Affairs tonight and thought the same thing. Complete fucking ripoff.

But I was wondering why Leo had a Boston accent. Richard Gere didn't. I guess they were trying to disguise the ripoffness.
