What of the rumours of Ian McKellan and Christopher Lee returning as Gandalf and Saruman? Any truth to that?

What happened to Del Toro?

Forget about that, I've heard that the films may not be filmed in New Zealand due to an actor's union dispute. And isn't MGM on the verge of bankruptcy?

Yup. that's why there hasn't been any word about another Bond film after Quantum of Solace. :(

Stuart Townsend will be recording a new version of Kiss's "Beth" for the soundtrack!

It's bad enough for the impatient that it's going to be in two parts (2 years), making us wait 3 years to see the whole movie would royally piss me off. While taking the additional time to flesh out the extravaganza over 2 movies would give Jackson a chance to do the movie as much justice as he did with LOTR (and ultimately be more satisfying to people like me), doing so over 3 seems more like abuse to me. -kd5-

Actually, if it were two movies, you'd only wait one year in between to see the whole film. And only two years if it is three movies...

Three movies? Really? Ugh. I just don't think I have the energy...

Well, that's your fault for masturbating to 3 hour long Hobbit movies for the whole duration. It is a bit extreme.

Well, I'm screwed then. My doctor told me I only got 1 year to live. So, I'm hoping there's only two movies at most if I have any chance in seeing this. ;)

(No way I'm wearing those dorky 3D glasses.)

What's the "giveaway" part?

It's hard to say, since the originating news article is in Italian. However, it may be like the Podracer glasses for Star Wars Ep 1 where select theaters "gave away" them to people attending the 3D screenings.

Avengers had similar custom glasses, but those cost an additional $5:

Harry Potter (also WB) had free ones too.

Re: The Hobbit

Ah, OK, thanks. I was curious if there was going to be some kind of contest for them, or if it would just be up to theater chains to choose to give them away.

It's not a rumor. Peter Jackson posted the news on his Facebook account. The announcement has been quoted twice on this thread already.

Here it is again:

Forgive me for not reading through 1,380 posts to see that.

That would make sense as they were made to look like the ones Harry wore.

But those ones for Hobbit? WTF? i'm just glad they're "compatible with passive 3d tvs, monitors, and laptops"; just like the ones the ancient races of Middle Earth had.

The quotes were posts 1307 and 1327, both made on 7/30, and yours was post 1381, so you would've had to have read the previous 53 posts, about two pages and about two days worth of posts. I'm not sure it's an unreasonable expectation that you've read at least a few days worth of recent posts before commenting in a 5 year old thread.

Or maybe take 5 seconds to do a quick Google search for something like "hobbit movie trilogy", which returns "Peter Jackson splits 'The Hobbit' into three films" as its first news result.

Or maybe 3-5 posts above yours to see if people are already talking about it? I mean, it was only 20 posts, superdeluxe! ;)

And how the hell was I supposed to know that that information was in posts #1,307 and #1,327 without actually reading 1,307 and 1,327 posts, huh? That's just being ridiculous.

Why the hell should I Google search before I make a comment? Do you??? I suppose neither of you have ever made a mistake?

Both of you can bite me. -kd5-
