1. We really need to fix this search we have here on DVDtalk. I had to go to my own profile and click on the search tab, click on that, and search for THE HOBBIT..after 2 or 3 pages for Threads I found it. Seriously...the search here seems to be getting worse.
2. Luckily I remember us having this thread, so no new bothersome thread!...so...here we go.

Use google, it's not brain surgery to do so and it's far more effective than this site will ever be
'the hobbit peter jackson site:dvdtalk.com'(no quotes) at google find this thread about 8th result on the first page. It took me less than 30 seconds to find it. Just choose a search query and add 'site:dvdtalk.com'(no quotes) after a space. Google will search this forum for you. Over time you will develop a skill set with searching, you will learn to used search queries more effectively.
Just get used to doing that. You don't have to go to your profile to search this forum either, but let's skip that.
Just use google.

The material for this narrative would apparently be worked up from the appendices that Jackson already had been granted rights to use.
Then, the story changed. There were just going to be two Hobbit films, splitting the novel across them, and no bridge movie. If this new rumour is true and the bridge is back, why might that be? It’s likely a mix of Del Toro only wanting to direct only two pictures and Jackson both wanting to use the appendices up and, when the time is right, return to Middle Earth himself. Sounds plausible… right?
The discussion of Smaug is pretty vague and not entirely useful:
Smaug will be a mixture of practical and animation… going purely on practical, the design rocks. I think The Hobbit may be a different beast to the book, at least in terms of going darker. And judging from Smaug and ‘the Gollum tweaks’ will be something to rival the previous attempts at the very least.
Doesn’t mean much to me. Calling a film “dark” never really has. Sounds like a catch-all for various kinds of “cynical and cool in some way that gives me a blush and rising pulse”. To say Smaug is darker only really means something if we’re talking actual color scheme here, I’d say, and of course we’re not.

No sir, I don't like it. The two films announced should cover The Hobbit and The Appendecies all while keeping the grand look of the trilogy on film.
I don't want gimmicky 3D or an unnecessary 3rd film.

I'm not really sure what everyone means by a "bridge" between The Hobbit and LOTR trilogy that keeps coming up. There's really not a lot of material that happens between the books, so they'd have to make stuff up.
One thing that could be done, though, is to expand "The Hobbit" and put in things like the White Council and "The Necromancer." Maybe have Bilbo meet Tom Bombadil. That bit from LOTR with Tom and the ring would easily fit into "The Hobbit" with Bilbo and would provide some nice foreshadowing to the LOTR trilogy.
And Christopher Eccleston would be perfect as Tom.

I'm down with the two hobbit films, but not a third. They can go ahead and film in 3D if they want, as long as they film it in 4k so we don't lose any resolution.

Gimmiky 3D (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) sucks, but subtle 3D can really add depth to the image. Also if it is filmed in 3D, it shouldn't change how you watch it at home, as long as they don't through stuff at you like some of these kids films.

I dunno if Del Toro would be into the 3D thing really...but who really likes these 3D things? I've never seen a film in "3D". What's the big deal about it?
