Not to mention that I'm not sure how much make up it will take to make Ian Holm look young again.. ;)

its more of a kiddie book then the others. so probably not.

This is like making:
LORD OF THE RINGS, EPISODE I: THE HOBBIT |

It would be awesome to have a Hobbit movie with the same quality as the Lord of the Ring trilogy.
|
Wait- so we have three movies right.
The Hobbit is a prequel. Then they have the Silmarillion which would need to be two movies I bet. So LOTR is episode 4 Then TTT is episode 5 and ROTK will be episode 6 With the Silmarillion as episode 1 and 2 and the Hobbit as episode 3 it looks like we might have to wait quite a few years. I bet they get Luca$ to direct the Prequels ;) |
You could also have Hugo Weaving return as Elrond.... are there any other characters besides Elrond, Bilbo, and Gandalf that are in both books?
|
Gollum is in both books.
|
I liked The Hobbit more than the Lord of the Rings book so I would love to see a movie made from it. I can only hope.

No one get your hopes up for a Silmarillion movie. Aside from adaptability issues, Christopher Tolkien owns those rights and has an iron grip on them.
Of course, he won't live forever...but who knows what the Tolkien Estate will have arranged for the future. |

Originally posted by PalmerJoss I also remember reading that Christopher Tolkien HATED Peter Jackson's film versions of the books, so I can't see any reason why he'd let the Silmarillion go the same route. |
Originally posted by Jepthah I would be surprised if Christopher Tolkien has even watched Jackson's Lord Of The Rings. He is reputedly against any cinematic adaptation of his father's work whatsoever. But his father sold the film rights and so that was that. He should at least be appreciative of the significantly increased book sales and other royalties. |

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...lm/1697884.stm As Jepthah says, he probably hasn't seen them; what he disagrees with is the idea of making a movie out of the book in the first place. |
Did they ever release an animated version of the Hobbit on DVD that included the sound affects, like the "ooop" when he would put the ring on? i remember the first version released on DVD was missing some sound effect. there were also missing sound effects for the spinning spiders scene.

Originally posted by Jepthah I think one of the reasons PJ has stated in his arguments against doing The Hobbit is that it would arguably be harder to adapt than LOTR, if you can believe that. It is tonally so different from LOTR, it is even more of an episodic "road movie" than FOTR was, and you have these standards set by the later filmic reality of the trilogy. Serkis would have to be back as Gollum, McKellen as Gandalf, but what about a younger Bilbo? Ian Holm couldn't do it. Bilbo's role in the LOTR books/films is relatively minor and, as noted, he would be significantly younger in the prequel. I can't see any real problem with any younger actor playing the part not being an Ian Holm look-a-like. If it is more difficult to be faithful to the book because of its episodic nature then maybe it could actually be made in episodes i.e. by way of a high production values tv series. Then the travelling aspect would be a feature of each episode, perhaps, but would not dominate so much. Just a thought! |

Not the best looking fan trailer. Just some hodgepoge scenes.
I would really love a Hobbit movie to be done soon just for continuity sake. You know someone someday will make it. I would really like to see the same actors and the same director taking it so that it falls inline with the trilogy. If not I know some bonehead producer will just use it as a cash cow. |
Please let this happen
There a few things I would "ABSOLUTELY LOVE" to see and this is one of them. I also ONLY repeat ONLY want Peter Jackson to direct "The Hobbit". I also heard that Ian McKellan WANTS to make "The Hobbit". I know PJ is probably sick of MIddle Earth. Plus, "The Hobbit", unlike "Rings", is an easy to adapt book. I am begging you PJ if your reading this, please for the love of God consider making "The Hobbit". PLEASE

Three hundred lives of men I’ve walked this earth and now I have no time.
that's a few more than 1,000 years. more like 10,000 |
Peter Jackson:
"Hmmm... why didn't I think of this before? Thanks, Dalvin!" |
