so. it is still a big fat hit and made almost $350 mil on a $75 mil budget worldwide, exceeded all expectations, and was probably a big surprise this summer. i don't like the show, but even i am interested in this movie.

Nice hold by Bourne. I think Rush Hour 3 will have a big drop next weekend. It dropped 10% Saturday, so word-of-mouth must not be that great. The production budget was $140 million. I guess it'll get a bit more than that, maybe?

$50M isn't bad for RH3. However, if $25M didn't go to financing Chris Tucker's outrageous salary, then I think the movie would be in good shape to making it's money back. A 6-year hiatus probably hurt it as well. If this would have come out in 2002 or 2003 when Rush Hour was still fresh in people's minds, I think the opening weekend might have been closer to RH2.

Overall, it's going to make it's money back overseas especially in Asia where Jackie is still very popular.

I read a week or so ago that China banned this movie because of its depiction of the Triad.

I heard about the ban in mainland China, but Jackie's movies are still very popular in Hong Kong and this will do very well there.

Has Cuba ever been a leading man in a move that has done good business? It seems that every movie he is in bombs or not enough business to be a hit. The only hit I can remember him in is Jerry McGuire and that was a Tom Cruise movie. Maybe Hollywood should stop calling. Just because an actor have an Oscar, it doesn't mean people are more likely to go see a movie staring them. Kevin Costner is another actor that hasn't had a hit since (Bodyguard/JFK/Robin Hood - not sure what was the last released of thoose).

Jackie Chan might be popular in Asia but most Asians dislikes Jackie in Rush Hour movies

Costner may not have had many blockbusters lately, but since The Bodyguard he's been in a lot of movies that are pretty good or at least respectable (A Perfect World, Tin Cup, For Love of the Game, Thirteen Days, Open Range, The Upside of Anger, to name a few).

Cuba Gooding Jr., on the other hand, has been in a ton of awful movies. Looking over his imdb page, his only decent follow-ups to Jerry McGuire were As Good As It Gets and What Dreams May Come in '97 and '98. And those were supporting roles.

So Costner and Gooding are not very comparable, IMHO.

It should be noted that he is in the upcoming American Gangster with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Don't know how big his role is, but maybe that will be his comeback role. However, the problem is Hollywood felt after he won the Oscar that he could headline a movie when some actors are just not meant to be a lead.
