Love the Saw franchise (Saw I, Saw II & Saw III), but Dead Silence was a total mess & i was just plain disappointed with the movie & i really don't think having "From the Director of 'Saw" means as much.
Anyways, this sounds like an intresting plot & I'll admit i'm a Kevin Bacon fan. I'm a even bigger John Goodman fan so this is a must buy when it comes to DVD.

Looks good. So, the music (which I've heard in numerous trailers) is from 28 days later - was that part of the original score for that film or is that a song which came out earlier?

It's from the 28 Days Later soundtrack, and it's called "In the House, in a Heartbeat". Was also heavily used in 28 Weeks Later as well, then shortly thereafter it made it's way into about 3 or 4 movie trailers this summer.

Very cool. Curious to see how it turns out. Glad to see Wan trying a new genre. I figured one more horror picture, and he'd stuck for life. Should be interesting.

I already saw it about 6 to 7 months ago at a sneak preview.
I thought the story was good even though its been done many times before and it would have been overall a good film if it had a better director. Many bad points but Garrett Hedlund was pretty good in the film as the bad guy and John Goodman is always great. One thing is for sure you guys will have fun pointing out everything no talent Wan stole/tried to imitate poorly in this movie from various other films.
The person I saw it with really liked it and I didn't. But then again he thought Children of Men was a boring waste of time and anything black and white, foreign, and/or made before 1980 is automatically boring.

I'm looking forward to it although most people are prob turned off by James Wan at this point - it looks pretty decent

If you have access to the Fox Movie Channel, check out this week's edition of Life After Film School (repeated several times over the next week or so) with Kevin as the guest.

I'll be going tomorrow, but if this one disappoints, then James Wan goes on my shitlist. I liked Saw but Dead Silence was terrible... two strikes and you're out with me... i'm hoping it'll be entertaining.

I just got back from this today, it was... ok. I didn't find it nearly as offensive as the zero star reviews that it got from DVD Talk, but it felt really long to me. If they trimmed it up it could have been a lot more intense.
It's really nothing worth rushing out to see, but then again, based on the amount of people in the theater this one might not be around long anyway. I would say to give it a shot if you're low on things to see, but if you're going in with any more expectations than a decent flick, you will most likely be disappointed.

Saw this last night. It was entertaining, if nothing else. Sure, the plot was pretty nonsensical and the cops, when they bothered to show up, shirked their job in favor of helping out Bacon, but it was fun. It reminded me of something Canon would have produced if they were still around. There was some great gore and good shootouts. John Goodman had an amusing little role. I'd give it a 7/10.

Decent movie and certainly better than critics make it sound (and compared to the shit that's been out these last 2 weeks, a welcome surprise). I love Revenge dramas and this one delivers in that department. The thriller aspect works great and the gore/thrills pack a pretty good punch. However, any scene with Aisha Tyler sucks the life out of the movie and all the dramatic scenes are undercut by horrible 'Imogen Heap'-esque music that seems more at place on an episode of THE OC than it does in this movie.
That music just made all the dramatic stuff seem like a Life Network movie of the week. Bacon does a decent job in some of those scenes but the music hurts rather than helps. Like I said though, the thriller parts do work well and are entertaining enough. I'd say about 3/5 stars - not a lot new here but it's still fun and flashy in the right spots. And in reference to my other post above - This round goes to you Mr. Wan.
