I've seen camp, okay? I've witnessed half of Can't Stop The Music with pre-Police Academy Steve Guttenburg - whew, what an awful stink-fest. Just way too gay.
Anyway...
I've heard nothing but awful about Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, but I think I'm going to risk it and rent it - due to the amazing cast in this film! This has to be considered amongst the top ensemble casting ever!
Peter Frampton Barry Gibb Robin Gibb Maurice Gibb Donald Pleasence (Loomis from "Halloween")... Steve Martin ... Aerosmith Earth Wind and Fire Alice Cooper Billy Preston George Burns (holy crap!)... George Benson Keith Carradine Rick Derringer ("Weird Al's" producer!) Donovan (they call me Mello Yello) Yvonne Elliman José Feliciano Leif Garrett Heart Dr. John Bruce Johnston (he wrote "I Write The Songs" for Barry Manilow!) Mark Lindsay (member of Fleetwood Mac) Curtis Mayfield 'Cousin Brucie' Morrow Peter Noone Alan O'Day (had a #1 hit with "Undercover Angel") Robert Palmer Wilson Pickett Anita Pointer (a Pointer Sister?) Bonnie Raitt Helen Reddy (Delta Dawn) Minnie Riperton ("Loooving yooooou") Johnny Rivers Del Shannon (filmed before his suicide) Jim Seals (his singing partner was Crofts)
Dash Crofts (his singing partner was Seals) Connie Stevens John Stewart (naaahhh!) Tina Turner Frankie Valli Grover Washington Jr. Hank Williams Jr. Johnny Winter Wolfman Jack Bobby Womack Gary Wright (Opie's girlfriend's handle) George Harrison (a Beatle)
Linda McCartney (wife of a Beatle) Paul McCartney
Ugh. Anyway, what's the opinion out there? As bad as Can't Stop The Music, or even worse?

I consider it a curiosity that must be experienced if you like overdone mistakes. It's such a horrible concept that there was really no way it could be great. And I sense it has not aged well.
And I actually saw it in a theater

Saw the last half hour or so on Starz a few months back. It's very very very bad.
This movie is lacking in every possible way: plot, script, cast, direction, set design, costumes, makeup, pacing, editing, and yes, even the music, as classic music is ripped out of context and poorly covered by people who should have known better.
I'm not a huge Beatles fan, and am not usually the type to get incensed over things like this, but the word "travesty" best describes this movie. Rent it if you think it will have camp value, but be prepared for a painful viewing experience.

A friend of mine bought it because she remembered it fondly. She brought it here to watch with us. Even she had to admit that it was awful.
Except for the performances by Earth, Wind, and Fire, and by Aerosmith, watching the DVD would a complete waste of your time. Count the holes in the ceiling tiles instead.

I saw it in a theater too, with my little sister who was a huge Bee Gees fan.
If you're looking for something that's "so bad, it's good", this isn't it. It's just boring. There's nothing outlandishly awful, just blandness.
The Aerosmith cover of "Come Together" is competent, just unimaginitive (basically just sticks to the original arrangement) and comes out of nowhere -- I think they are supposed to be some kind of villains, but they just show up, stand around and do the song and leave ... wtf???
Probably the best song is EW&F doing "Got To Get You Into My Life" which at least has some imagination and energy.
My advice - don't waste your time.

I saw this at a press screening at the (now defunct) Rivoli Theater in Times Square. It left even the critics speechless - at least, as they exited the theater. It was one of those "Do you believe we actually just sat through that?" expressions that seemed to glaze over everyone's face. Right up there with Xanadu and Pluto Nash on the what the hell were they thinking? hit parade.

this was bad but good for camp purposes.
it almost killed the careers of bee gees and frampton.
as bad as anyone hear says it is, it is always worse ten that.
all that being said, i love the movie.
it's just a blast to watch.

OK, this is shameless self promotion but...
I reviewed this movie here about 4 years ago. You can read my review by clicking here I hope I succinctly put into prose how absolutely enjoyable this cinematic abortion is.
It's the most awful film you'll ever love.
