I voted for Die Hard 3. 2 was too corny with all the lines about happening twice in a row, but 3 brought it back down to a more believable level (even though it's still your over the top action movie). Still awesome though. I'm not positive though since I haven't seen the R cut of DH4, but I doubt there would be anything more they could put in other than language.

Gotta go with Goldfinger in New York. McTiernan's back continuing the Gruber arc, the badass elevator scene, people scissored in half. "McClane are you trying to run over these people?" "No. Well maybe that mime."

Die Hard With A Vengeance, easy. It's the only one that compares favorably to the original.

Die Hard 2, followed by Live Free.

Die Hard 3 is awful. Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson bickering with each other like old women for two hours. On top of that, there's a recycled villain who tries to distract everyone from the lame plot by making them solve fucking brain teasers. (That whole scene with the water bottles...ugh.)

Definitely 2. Great action sequences and a fun ride all around.

Followed by LFoDH. I thought the addition of a sidekick was going to be terrible, but it actually helped the movie.

Then DHwaV. My least favorite, although still a good action flick.

I haven't seen Live Free or Die Soft yet(waiting for the R-rated cut on Blu-ray).

Between 2 and 3, I easily go with 2. Jeremy Irons was a better villain than William Sadler and the plot in 3 was less absurd than the airport takeover in 2(how could it not be?), but the rest of 2 was vastly superior.

The action scenes were better. The score was better. The supporting cast was better and included holdovers from the first film which made it feel like more of a sequel. And McClane was a much better character in 2. Ditching Holly and making him a borderline alcoholic was stupid.

Honestly I've never understood the recent hate for 2. Is it an anti-Renny Harlin thing? Granted the man has made some truly awful films, but so has John McTiernan. Or has everyone forgotten about Rollerball?

I like 2 the best as far as sequels go. I enjoy 3 and 4. However, 3 and 4 are 'buddy' films. I like 1 and 2 because it is just McClane taking on the bad guys. Sure he interacts with a few other good guys but it is mostly a 1 man show.

Why are people who HAVEN'T seen Live Free or Die Hard voting...take the time you used to vote to get your ass to a theatre! You need to see all of them to decide which is best IMO ... I like all of them, but if you had asked me a few weeks ago, Die Hard: With a Vengeance would have taken the spot...but if you ask me now which Die Hard sequel is the best, it's a total no brainer - Live Free or Die Hard is the best Die Hard sequel, hands down.

I love Die Hard With a Vengence, but after seeing Live Free or Die Hard, it is my favorite of the sequals.

I saw them all in order except for the original, which I just saw on DVD last week. I have to say, I liked the 3rd and 4th installments more than the original. I'm sure in its time it was awesome but it hasn't aged particularly well.

That's not to say I didn't like it, it just wasn't the ultimate action movie to me.

The third installment is still my favorite though although it has a pretty crappy ending.

Vengeance because I didn't buy the whole "fake" gun battle scene in the second sequel.

By FAR, Die Hard 2!

DH2 is the one that most captures the spirit of the original. The location setting, the wife, the nosy reporter, Al Powell and his twinkies..... And that money-shot with the ejector seat with the Die Hard belly-scream!

When Die Hard II came out, I remember reading something about a major plot hole dealing with the fact that the whole seizing of the airport thing could have been averted if someone would have just done this. I can't remember what "this" is though.

There are about 100 reasons why the terrorist plot never would've worked. First and foremost the planes could've easily been diverted to other airports which pretty much kills any leverage Col. Stuart and Co. had.

All the Die Hard movies are ridiculous though. The 3rd one also couldn't have happened since the number of trucks Simon had wasn't enough to hold all that gold.

And even the first one is pretty flimsy. Are you telling me the terrorists' entire plan hinges on their ability to drive an ambulance out of the parking garage without anyone noticing? Argyle sure screwed that one up.

In the movie, though, the massive winter storm had forced other nearby airports to close. And, for the first half of the movie, the "real" control tower was not allowed to communicate with the jets still in the air because the bad guys had taken over communications and were pretending to be the tower, so were telling the planes to all stay in a holding pattern. (Later, the real tower figured out a way to contact the planes and diverted the ones that still had enough fuel to do so, and the only ones left were the planes too low on fuel to successfully divert.)

Despite all of these explanations that were given so the movie works internally, it's still pretty farfetched that the perfect winter storm would hit on the very day when the bad guys needed all other nearby airports to be closed due to weather. There is absolutely no way they could've planned that to happen, without which their whole plan falls apart.

I'm all for Renny Harlin and Die Hard 2: Die Harder. It had the right mix of everything.. from the villains, to the sidekicks, to the action and including scenes for Holly and Thornburg.

For me it's 3, 4, and then 2.

2 was abysmal.

I voted for number 3.

It was the first one I saw -- and I did see it theatrically. It's probably why I latched onto it as my favorite.
