This movie looks sooooo awesome, like Charlie and Chocolate Factory meets Arrested Development by way of Toys. 'Bout time Natalie Portman made another movie. I'm already in line for this baby.

I dunno, I'm picking up a heavy "Lemony Snicket" vibe, which I hated. Also, I'm not sure if it's just me, but it feels like the trailer is exposing too much of the plot, which also doesn't strike me as a good sign.

Rhyming Title: Awesome
Natalie Portman: Awesome-r
Dustin Hoffman: Awesome-st
Jason Bateman: Unfortunately, the presence of Bateman brings the movie down a rung for me. Aside from Arrested Development, I have yet to see him in any role in which I find him even remotely funny.
For me, I believe he is the Jerry Seinfeld of Arrested Development. Surrounded by others, he brings the straight-laced character to the show. On his own, however, in other films... Not so much with "the funny."

Maybe it was the mention of "Toys" in the 1st post but that trailer looks awful. I agree with the Jason Batement comment and I don't think Portman can pull off comedy (at least not if that trailer is any indication).

I like everyone involved and was waiting to see what Zach Helm would do after Stranger Than Fiction, but this movie looks brutal... even the trailer was terrible to me and usually I'm up for flicks like this... I'll skip it - looks like the 'Nanny McPhee' of this year.

The trailer made me cringe. Looks absolutely awful.

This trailer practicaly gave me a headache when I saw it in theaters. I like Hoffman, but this one just looks lame. I could be wrong, but it looks like it's a pale imitator of Willy Wonka and other such fare.

I am actually amazed this movie isn't based on a children's book.
The first time I saw the trailer, I thought to myself "I guess this is a movie for fans of the book, because I can't see how it got made otherwise."
So I'm still confused about it. It looks like it's trying to be "whimsical" and landing directly on "off-putting".
