The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters
Has anybody seen anything about this documentary.
The trailer looks very entertaining. I love the nostalgia, I remember when video games and arcades were really popular. I can't wait to see this. Official site: http://billyvssteve.com/ Better options for viewing trailer: http://www.movie-list.com/trailers.php?id=kingofkong |

I'd really like to see this movie, but judging by the theater options on the website, I'm probably going to be waiting on the DVD.

Saw this tonite at the Kendall in Cambridge MA, absolutely fantastic.
|
i was a child of the 80's and every time i had more then $1 in my pocket i was on my way to the arcade. i can not wait to see this.
cheers, jj |
They're working on an adaptation of this, BTW.
|
as much as I like Donkey Kong and documentary films - this doesn't really interest me in the slightest - watching people playing video games sounds utterly unfun.
the film is here now at Landmark E street. |
This is opening in Dallas Friday, so I'll check it out.
|
I've been hearing about this movie for over a year on a podcast I listen too. The closest it's playing near me is Ann Arbor, MI and Detroit tends to get lots of limited released and indie movies. It's getting terrific reviews all around. I've heard nothing but great things about it...grrr. If it was a piece of crap action movie, it would be playing on three screens per theater in my neighborhood.
|
I'd love to see this. It's movies like this that makes me wish we could buy movies to stream online.
|
Roeper and Wolinsky (sp) were gushing over this. It's currrently siiting at 90% fresh at RT. It's playing at a few theaters near me, I'll have to check it out.

I was an arcade junkie too back in the day. This movie has received great raves from every review I've read. Playing at one theater in town.

the film is here now at Landmark E street. Unfortunately a lot of people will miss seeing this for the reasons you stated, and that's too bad because this was one of my favorite films this year. And judging by the gushing reviews from just about every publication, most of whom probably went into the film thinking it might suck watching people play video games, lots of people are pleasantly surprised. My theater had it's share of video game geeky looking guys, but also lots of women, and quite a few senior citizens as well. Everyone was laughing throughout the movie and this is the first movie I've seen recently where everyone clapped. Definitely worth checking it out. Give it a chance. Reviews at rotten tomatoes 47 fresh / 1 rotten 98% positive My favorite line of the movie. Not really a spoiler. Billy: Can't you guess what my initials would be? Just look at me..... Interviewer: (after a long pause) T I E ? rotfl |
Opens in Omaha in 2 weeks!
Looking forward to it. |
I got a lot of laughs out of this as well. The look on

Just saw the movie last night and its very funny. The seriousness that everyone treats the subject matter makes it a must see.

Can't wait to see this. I think I am going to have to drive to the city for this one.
|
great movie. i recomend it to everyone even if you arent into video games. the unintentional comedy of billy mitchell is priceless. he reminds me of the gamer dude from grandmas boy except he actually has a possy...even if they are losers.
|
I am interested in seeing this movie, but all of the controversy surrounding it sounds like a bit much when it involves a video game and a high score. Now all we need is the movie The Queen Of Porn - A Mouthful of Cock
|
I'm looking forward to this.
And, a question...why is his name Donkey? |

Saw this yesterday and absolutely loved it. GO GO GO!!
|
Finally saw it today, and it was fantastic! It's very close to being my favorite movie of the year so far (although I'd still have to give a slight edge to Zodiac).
|
Saw it with an audience of about 15 other people who were laughing throughout at how ridiculous the whole concept of the gaming championships were, yet everyone gave passionate applause by the end. Charming film- too bad it's so hard to find a screening.
|
Saw it Saturday with my sister (iggystar). This was an excellent film!!! It had alot of key elements to a good movie. It definitely had comedy (how serious some of the gamers were). It had drama and was a great look into the struggle many go through day to day. Even if you arent a videogame fan go see it. Its about much more than arcade games.
|
Finally got a chance to see this, and I really enjoyed it. Did anyone else follow up to see what happened after the movie ended? There's been more developments.

I really want to see this. No way is it coming near me though :(
|
I saw this a couple of weeks ago, and thought it was hilarious at how passionate these dudes are about video games. Good doc, very entertaining.
|
I saw this a few weeks ago and it's highly recommended. Parts of it were (un?)intentionally hilarious, like a Christopher Guest movie.
|
I finally got to see this. Can't add much other than it is a must see when you get the chance.
I'm not a fan of video games, but I found it incredibly entertaining. I've never seen a film that is so funny and bizare, yet has some touching human moments. How can you not love a movie when a guy who calls himself "Mr. Awesome" is one of the voices of reason. |
Watched this last night. What a great film. They really did paint Billy as a dick with certain camera shots and dialog choices. Even if you set those aside the shit he pulls earns him the 'dick' moniker himself anyway. Furthermore I can't believe he is allowed to be on the panel of judges for records he holds himself. That's a homecookin' ref right there.
I know it was posted above, but in the features segment the outcome of the duel has flip-flopped since the DVD was pressed. Don't miss it. Very entertaining film. |
I watched the DVD last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. It was pretty interesting how Twin Galaxies was so quick to accept Billy's taped record score, but not Steves. I got a real kick out of how Billy's groupies were upset that Steve showed up to eat at Billy's restaurant! Hah!
P.S. According to Wikipedia, Steve's initial high score beat one set by Tim Sczerby in 2000, not Billy, and Billy and Steve have actually met on an occasion or two NOT shown in the movie, and got along just fine. Don't know how true this is but it's based on comments by Walter Day. |

I was reading up on the Twin Galaxy website because I heard there were a lot of things not included in the movie. As much as I love the movie, there was quite a bit left out that seems pretty misleading. It's definitely not much of a documentary of events that took place during that time. It kind of ruins it a bit for me.

The only thing that would get me to change my mind about Billy's attitude during the entire documentary is if there was a scene where Steve walked up to Billy, knocked him out, started grabbing his wifes boobs, then while escaping ran over Billy's dog. Oh crap...gotta go, there's about to be a Donkey Kong kill screen! Donkey Kong kill screen over here! Do you wanna see a Donkey Kong kill screen??? |
