I've got to agree with you there, I enjoy J-Horror and K-Horror but Verbinski managed to turn an okay J-Horror flick with a creepy ending into a beautifully shot, and consistently eerie flick... One of the few instances where the remake is vastly superior to the original.
I tend to agree with the complaints on this movie, the middle really was needlessly long. I may pick it up sometime and rewatch it, maybe I missed something.

It is funny about the ending of this movie. I was just made aware that there is more than one. The funny thing is some people thought the ending with the tap recorder was happy and the ending with guy in burnt room was sad. I was thinking the exact opposite. The ending with the tape recorder makes it seems like he is still trapped in the room which makes it sad to me. The other ending the guy is with his daughter with the room dead which makes it a happy ending to me.
Either way its a poor movie.
