I can't believe how many people in this thread thought this movie was even decent. IMO it's one of the worst vampire movies I've ever seen. What the hell was up with all the fkn head tilting the vampires were doing? Seriously I was just talking to people about this on Saturday night. It's like the director told everyone playing a vampire to go home and pop in Jurassic Park and pay close attention to how the Velociraptors act then emulate that on screen for an hour and half..............oh and scream constantly for no reason. This movie was beyond awful.

I just rented this last night and it was ok. There was nothing special about it and the Vampires were pretty boring. I did want to know more about them but they were still cookie cutter Vamps to me.

The funny thing is in one of the Featurettes, they made a big deal about making these Vamps "different" and "Nothing anyone has seen"..."Very scary". Riiiiight, I had a chuckle when I heard that.

One a side note:

I did enjoy the "BLOOD" anime extra because I'm HUGE fan of the original "BLOOD". They did make some changes by including some stereotypical Animea characters that I didn't like but it was still kinda cool.

The blame for that lies with Bram Stoker himself. He chose to make Dracula a tragic romantic, even if the movie was a bit more "operatic" in this regard. And the novel was written over 100 years ago so a vampire that's capable of love is certainly not an invention of the 90's or some anti-Christian propaganda.

Well they were more like animals than human.

Anyways it's called 'opinions' and everyones differ. Just the way it is so relax and watch a vampire movie you do enjoy

Cinematography was brilliant and should have been nominated for an Oscar.
It's been a while since I've seen a cgi fx movie without that green, teal look in this century. I least I now know it can be done.
The movie was good and I liked except it got dumb when Josh went and became a hero.
I thought he was going to turn into BLADE or something to continue the series.
If they would have stuck to the cross and steak in the heart or garlic the movie would have solved a lot of weak points. Now some of the vampires were killed with bullets but I heard them say some got right back up.

Dracula in love was an addition for Francis Ford Coppolla's movie, and didn't come from Stoker's novel.

I have to admit I was looking forward to watching this in theaters but when the lights came back on I was happy to leave. It was just horrible.

I definitely need to re-read the book, then. My memory of the book was that Dracula had fallen for Mina (and she for Dracula) but it was all handled a heck of a lot more subtley than the movie ever did.

Okay, I definitely remebered wrong:

Mina slowly succumbs to the blood of the vampire that flows through her veins, switching back and forth from a state of consciousness to a state of semi-trance during which she is telepathically connected with Dracula. It is this connection that they start to use to track Dracula's movements. It is only possible to track Dracula's movements when Mina is put under hypnosis by Van Helsing. This ability is getting gradually weaker as the group makes their way to Dracula's castle.
I guess the movie colored my memory of the book.

I enjoyed this movie for some reason. It was nothing great, but not a bad way to waste 2 hours. It looked really good on BD.

I love how they came across like a pack of (intelligent) wild dogs.

Man, While I love posting here I can't figure out for the life of me what most of you are expecting in a film.

The beauty of this flick is in it's simplicity. The vampires came to feed. Plain and simple, that's it, nothing more, nothing less.

The line from the head vampire
Spoiler:
something about us (humans) knowing vampires for all these years as only a myth because of their ability to keep it that way was pitch perfect. They come to town, scope it out, feed, then leave no trace that they were there - simple

Ok, There was one scene (and only one) that made me roll my eyes
Spoiler:
the scene in the bar when evan (or is it Eben?) meets the stranger and he stands up in his face only to so conviently have his ex right behind him with a gun to his head - this would have been ok if while holding the gun she didn't say a word and just looked scared but no, she had to do it Trinity Matrix style - for some reason, that shot just pissed me off

I loved it and it actually freaked me out - something I thought a Ghosthouse film could never do.

And guys and gals, I'm not nit-picking you for your ways but I just can't understand what else you would want in this film - a goofy complex storyline that the people figure out by some acient writing left on a rock somewhere? I mean honestly.

The simplicity here is what makes the film, we spend all of our time wondering how the people of the town are going to survive and how/if they are going to wait out the 30 days. We get comfortable when they make it to a safe location but then know that they need to move on eventually to survive.

Also big credit for not going the typical hollywood route when
Spoiler:
when the paranoid Father leaves the house, he only puts himself and his son in jeporady instead of blowing the cover on the hideout - I'm glad it went down that way

I couldn't agree more.
I just watched this on BD last night and I hated it. The only thing remotely decent about this flick was the Cinematography.

Quoted for truth.

I watched this earlier this week, and even though I went into it with very, very low expectations, I was still disappointed.

I'll admit I'm not a fan of these type of movies, but I'll rent one from time to time for my wife (she's into horror and vamps way more than I'll ever be). This movie sucked ass. I left the room half way through and then my wife started fast forwarding just to see what happens. Woof woof.

I don't think people have a problem with the concept because you're right, the idea is simple. 30 days of night with hungry Vampires stalking you. Holy Shit! That sounds great!

How could they blow that?

...but for those of us not impressed with 30 days....they did.

I liked the movie. I have one gripe about the ending.

Spoiler:
Him turning into a vampire was completely pointless. The sun rose like 5 minutes after he kills the main baddie and it turns out that the truck the girls were under was completely safe. They should have had the girls have to move due to the fire/oil coming their way while Eban was fighting. Then maybe the truck blows up. Oh. well.

And...

Spoiler:
what was the point of staying in the sun to die? Hell, why not stay alive and hunt down the remaining Vamps with is new abilities just for killing all those people? He was a law man so why not?

He would have eventually turned into a bad vampire. They made a point of telling us you could only be in control for a limited amount of time before going full vamp.

I thought the movie was great. The movie looked amazing. The vamps were beautiful and creepy. Loved the simple story. All around good movie.

Really? Hmm, I still think the movie was just ok and nothing special.
