I agree. Jack, you can't use John Cena and Steve Austin's movies as examples. They were shoddily made generic movies that were only made to appeal to one audience. A quick buck flick similar to all those direct-to-video movies with Van Damme and Segal. Can you even off the top of your head name the director of those movies? No, because they haven't ever made anything significant. Bad scripts with no originality doesn't make a good action movie, regardless of who's starring in it.
There are good action movies waiting to be made by good directors, they just haven't been made yet because conventional Hollywood thinking is that the genre is done. No genre is ever "done". It just needs to be reinvented with originality. Imagine if James Cameron made an action movie with The Rock. Now, I don't know how The Rock operates in Hollywood, but I think that he shouldn't have much of a problem convincing some good directors and studios to take a chance on him based on his charisma alone. Otherwise, all we've got to look forward to is Spy Hunter directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
