I just really hope this movie turns out good. I don’t have a ton of faith in it.

While it hasn’t been fully revealed the plot involving Adam/He-Man crash landing on Earth makes me think it’s probably not going to feature much of Eternia, which is a bummer. That aspect alone is kind of making me cautious about getting excited.

‘Masters of the Universe’: Alison Brie Nabs Key Villain Role of Evil-Lyn in Amazon’s He-Man Movie (Exclusive)

'The Idea of You' star Nicholas Galitzine is playing He-Man in the adaptation of the popular toy brand first introduced in the 1980s.
September 4, 2024 2:00pm

Alison Brie has nabbed the key villain role of Evil-Lyn in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action take on Masters of the Universe.

The actress, currently seen on Peacock’s thriller limited series Apples Never Fall, joins Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) and Camila Mendes in the adaptation of the popular toy brand first introduced in the 1980s. Galitzine leads the series as He-Man, while Mendes is on the call sheet for the role of Teela, the captain of the royal guard and possible romantic interest.

In the director’s chair the feature has sitting Travis Knight, the founder of stop-motion powerhouse Laika, who helmed the company’s Kubo and the Two Strings. Masters of the Universe has been in development for around two decades, but now finally seems to be approaching a start of production.

Plot details are being kept in the box, but the concept centers on the character of Prince Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into the muscular He-Man and is imbued with superhuman strength and abilities. With his assortment of allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.

Evil-Lyn is Skeletor’s second-in-command and uses a wand with a crystal orb to practice the dark arts. Meg Foster portrayed the character in the 1987 live-action movie.

The screenplay is by Chris Butler, following initial drafts written by David Callaham, and brothers Aaron and Adam Nee.

Escape Artists and Mattel Films are producing the feature that is to be released in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.

The casting in a big-budget IP fantasy is a change of pace for Brie, who is known for her comedy and dramatic work in rom-coms and television. She earned notices for her roles on Netflix series GLOW, cult comedy Community and AMC’s Mad Men. She recently starred in romancer Somebody That I Used To Know, which she co-wrote, and executive produced with husband Dave Franco, and appeared in the Oscar-winning drama Promising Young Woman.

Brie is repped by WME and Rise Management.

Good casting. She’ll be good at chewing scenery.

Not a fan of Alison Brie (or any of the casting so far). Hopefully she (and this movie) will surprise me.

I haven't seen a single thing Brie has been in, but I am happy to see someone older being cast. Sarting to get excited about this..grew up on the cartoon, saw the movie in theaters... we'll see! Would love to see a LOTR prologue about Keldor becoming Skeletor - or maybe just the entire first movie. Set up a trilogy, bring in She-Ra in part two, etc.

Your idea sounds better than the "crash landed on Earth, returns to Eternia as a teen" premise they seem to be going with.

I hope it doesn't suck, but I can't say I'm all too optimistic.

What comes after "overly ambitious" on the spectrum of possibility? Because your idea is like three steps past that.

Jared Leto Confirmed As Skeletor In Amazon MGM’s ‘Masters Of The Universe’

Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s live-action Masters of the Universe film has four new villains, Deadline has learned.

Jared Leto (House of Gucci) is confirmed for the role of Skeletor, having initially been linked to the project back in September. Others now aboard include Sam C. Wilson (House of the Dragon) as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson (The Northman) as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah (In the Grey) as Tri-Klops.
'Masters Of The Universe' Movie Adds Jared Leto, Hafthor Bjornsson, More

Given his recent history, not sure this bodes well for this film...

Is this movie being developed as a tax write off? Because all the casting choices (and the plot) seem to be for maximum failure.

And, yeah, I like Leto but he needs to fire his agent.

Ugh. My interest in this just dropped. Not a fan of Leto whatsoever.

I am aware of 30 Seconds to Mars, but cannot name even one of their songs. I am convinced he is still a good actor, he just needs to pick better projects. Although I am still curious regarding Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad. The tiny bits that have leaked suggest a much darker, and less randomly inserted, tone for Leto's portrayal of the Joker. Hell, even Affleck was a supporting actor in the original cut.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)

Jared Leto is a very good actor. His performances in Dallas Buyers Club, Requiem for a Dream and Mr. Nobody weren't some amazing fluke. The Little Things opposite Denzel Washington and Rami Malek was his best performance in recent years. The problem is that Suicide Squad or Morbius are more talked about. In House of Gucci his performance was alright, the direction wasn't.

Like GoldenJCJ said already He-Man will most likely be more in the bad project column of his career choices.

Like I said before, I am convinced he is still a good actor, but the projects he's accepted lately are bad. Hence why I suggested he fire his agent (unless he's been ignoring good advice from his agent).

Leto is a full on method actor . . . I cannot wait for him to have all the flesh and muscle surgically removed from his face.

I always thought the Leto backlash was due to his "method acting" and behavior on set.

Insofar as Suicide Squad is concerned, that's part of it. But the backlash started when that first promo shot of Leto as the Joker was revealed.

I remember how my initial excitement for Leto as the Joker died when I saw that pic. Although I ended up warming to his performance, the look has always struck me as a desperate attempt to be more jarring than the initial response to Heath Ledger's look as the Joker.

Agree. And it’s not because of the cast. Its EARTH. With what was being said before of what the movie is gonna be about, and now with the new rumor flying around, just fucking throw it away. There’s no excuse anymore with cgi, In 87 it was a lame reason, but made sense. Today? No that shit dont fly anymore.

And. Skeletors 4 main henchmen. Evil lyn, tri klops, trap jaw and BEASTMAN , all relased by first 2 waves of toys, propably in 99% of cartoons, books, comics, Always first to be released in new lines of toys. Now we get Evil lyn, Tri klops, trap jaw and fucking goat man. Goat man, 1 book in 85, 2 seconds of shitty Kevin Smith cartoon. Con exclusive figure 10 years ago. Its gonna be muscle guy in a lucha mask with horns. Fuck off

Eh, I still like the director and frankly, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn seems fitting

Leto as Skeletor will be fine as long as he is in heavy make up and used sparringly. The whole imagining of The Joker was bad in the Suicide Squad, that well exceeds Leto's influence on it, too.

I know nothing about Galitzine, he has the facial features of a He-Man type though Zac Efron and his current jaw are deadringers.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)

This film is not exactly in the position of being able to be picky with it's actors and Leto is certainly a talent.(baggage and all) I'm not wild about the Earth setup (there's no reason he can't just be somewhere on Eternia) but as long as it's just the first 30min (or less) I'll look past it. As mentioned, this is the best director this film could've gotten - animation and live action experience, etc.

I thought I was pretty up to speed on He-Man stuff, especially having most of the toys, but I can't recall ever hearing about Goat Man. Trap-Jaw and Triklops should be fun in live action.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)

I believe there were allegations made against Beast Man onset back in 1987. While he was cleared, it left bad blood between him and the franchise. He asked for them to back up the money truck to appear in this new film, but since this production is on a budget, they went for the low-rent version and dug up Goat Man who took the job for scale and with minimal rewrites.

I'll need to see some footage before I decide how interested I am in this movie.

Never saw the Dolph Lundgren Cannon Films movie from decades ago. Is that the atrocity as I am led to believe it is? I see it's on MGM+, which I have. I am curious.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)

Frank Langella was fantastic as Skeletor. That's the bar Leto (and anyone else) has to clear. It's also one of Langella's favorite roles. Although, fun fact, the director admitted years ago that the movie was actually a stealth adaptation of Jack Kirby's The Fourth World, with Skeletor standing in for Darkseid. (He-Man was Orion, Evil-Lyn was Granny Goodness, Beastman was Kalibak, Gwildor was Metron, the Cosmic Key was a Motherbox, the Sorceress was Highfather, etc.)

Also, Bill Conti's score for the film is genuinely great. A shame the Intrada CD is out of print.

I wonder if the remake will have as troubled a production as the first film.

You could do a lot worse, it's essentially a cheap Star Wars knock-off (set on Earth to save money), but some of the performances (James Tolkan!), make-up and sets are interesting and the score is genuinely fantastic, a mix of Superman and Star Wars.

Mike86 12-26-24 06:45 PM

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)

Between some casting decisions and the fact that they’re finding a reason to set the movie on Earth instead of Eternia I’m pretty much not interested anymore.

It’s unfortunate as I feel like a He-Man/MOTU movie could have potential and instead it’s likely to be some garbage movie that will wind up on Prime shortly after release and forgotten about.
