Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
Got my tickets for that opening weekend in Dolby Cinema. No IMAX screenings at my theater. The holdover for Mandalorian and Grogu I suppose.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
So AMC is saying the date for the art print tin and merch is the 4th, does anyone know if those have been available for the early access screenings? (on Wed the 3rd in this case)
|
Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
Unfortunately I can’t see the Early Access screening as I have to work really early the next day. Oh well. I’ll most likely catch it the weekend it opens.

This is going to be epic. Credit where it's due, they know what makes for an 80s nostalgia fueled experience. |

This is going to be epic. I hope Brian May also collaborates on the score for the Highlander remake. |

For the music, the movie, what exactly? Are you saying playing to children of the 80s is a bad thing? |
Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
TBH It didn’t do much for me but if it’s responsible for one pr hasnt it done its job really?

I took the kids to Denny's for lunch on Sunday and I considered having some of their Masters of the Universe tie-in pancakes but that is a lot of food and a lot of calories so I said no. My kids did, too, because it didn't come with hasbrowns! No hash-browns with breakfast is an automatic dealbreaker for me, too. You raised your kids correctly, story. |
Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
Those character posters have me hyped for this. Trap Jaw looks really good along with most of the rest.

We have a clip of the transformation scene.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
I want to say that my daughter and I saw The Sheep Detectives today and Nicholas Galitzine who plays Adam is in that movie. Not only was the movie very good, Gailitzine was really good in it, too. Makes me mkre excited for Masters of the Universe!

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
Also, this has one week and then Disclosure Day opens the following week. Amazon really needs to stop dropping films in between other potential blockbusters.

It's interesting (maybe I was a bit over the top w my response) but we are now several generations removed from the high point of the IP.(Unlike the Transformers movies which were closer to one generation removed) And we are in our prime earning years with money to spend, and Mattel is clearly targeting us with the figures lines, etc. I just think the movie should've elevated itself, aim higher, be a great movie on it's own without the nostalgia bait. I'm sure it will be a fun movie - for a very small group of people.
You want them to make a MoTU movie........... .....without nostalgia??????????? :hscratch: |

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
If the nostalgia presented itself in the form of a lot of practical effects I might have been inclined to see this. But this looks like every other blockbuster Hollywood churns out. Just an over saturated CGI mess. I loved He Man as a kid. But I made the mistake of trying to parlay my love of Transformers and G.I Joe into following the live action franchises. But ultimately they were all a waste of time and revisiting the cartoons themselves proved more enjoyable.

Also a great point on getting older and how our tastes in movies and entertainment should naturally change...this is part of my earlier posts critical of this movies approach. I'm the target audience, and I'm not really looking for a live action version of the cartoon, adapt it, elevate it! |

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
While they surely want to bring in the old fogeys, I'd think they'd also want to bring in a bunch of new kiddos to sell toys to. So I can understand not going too deep, and why they'd treat this differently than, say, Barbie.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
That looks fun. I'll give them this... He-Man looks good and his Sword looks amazing. The sword seems to have some good solid heft which makes it seem legit. And I'll give them this, they had the balls to make the cartoon's more crazy lookin' characters, no matter how goofy they were, accurate in live action and they actually look pretty good.

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
Seems like Knight got this thing right, and is keeping it very close to the cartoon for us geezers in our late 40s/early 50s...might not be the best idea, but glad he thought of us! :D
But seriously, I would rather have one movie done right that honors the source material than several done wrong (aka Transformers) that make a lot of money and seemingly justify worse subsequent entries. This is looking like the theatrical release will be more for the hardcore fans and then hopefully it finds an audience on streaming to greenlight more entries. Amazon has the money, they could make more happen if they wanted, and I'm sure this will prove more popular on Prime than Rings of Power. |

Credit where it's due, they're making this as close to an 80s action-adventure flick as they can, including the song for the soundtrack. That sounds just like something one would find on an 80s soundtrack, except it would be the song most people skipped. |

Sounds like a poor imitation of the the band Hällas.
Now those guys would've absolutely killed it. |

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
I was unexpectedly invited to the NY premiere! Since I'm in the Southeast, it'll be the most expensive movie ticket I've ever gotten for free :p, but I'm still really excited. (And to see a bunch of old friends I haven't hung out with in ages.)

Re: Masters of the Universe (2026, D: Knight)
I’ve been hearing good early buzz about this. A guy I watch on YouTube, Pixel Dan who’s a huge fan of the franchise and did a book on the toyline was able to see it early and really enjoyed it.
