There it is folks!!! The casting decision that will bring in billions.

The casting announcements between this film and Doomsday are starting to look more like desperation.

A better announcement would've been ...
"Come watch our film we have Peter Weller as Roboto"

I’m not familiar with Roboto beyond vague memories of the toy but wondering what you all would think if instead Wiig were voicing Orko? When I heard she was doing a voice roll that’s where my mind immediately went and i wasn’t against it.

I saw that earlier. It's one way to bring a whole bunch of people who have never cared about MOTU and certainly not Roboto out in opposition, I guess. I assume this is a purely voice acting role, though?

These are literally the first two sentences of the article linked above
Quote:
Roboto has found his, or in this case, her voice.

The Masters of the Universe character, a mechanical warrior, will be voiced by Kristen Wiig in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s big-budget and big-screen feature, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Yeah. The weirdness stems from the fact that Roboto is essentially Man-At-Arms as Data, since Roboto's mind is based on Duncan's. So having Roboto be "female" is weird. My only guess is that Teela will be Roboto's creator / mental template this time around.

Where is that origin from? I remember in the mini comic he came with he was build by Man at Arms and had a heart stolen by Skeletor but I don't remember him being based on his mind or anything, and in the cartoons he had one appearance where he was like an alien. Did they share voice actors at some point or something in some sequel?

He was a cool toy (though I always liked the sci fi elements of MOTU more), basically the answer to Trap Jaw with his extra hands.

It seems there are four origins for Roboto. The one I mentioned is actually the fourth, which I mistook for the first.

Character history

Roboto was introduced into the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1985. His first appearance is in the Mattel mini-comic "The Battle of Roboto", in which he is built by Man-At-Arms, who gives him a cybernetically-enhanced heart, which enables him to feel human emotions and interact with his comrades as a human rather than as a machine. He was an exceptionally brave fighter, even to the point of taking on Hordak in single combat in one issue.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983)

Main article: Roboto (Filmation)Given that the accompanying cartoon series was drawing to a close at the time his action figure was released, Roboto only makes one appearance in the cartoon, but unlike most other figures released at this time, Roboto was lucky enough to get a whole episode written around him. This episode, Happy Birthday Roboto features a radically different origin story for him, in which he was a space explorer from the alien world of Robotica, who crash-landed on Eternia. Initially wrecked by the crash, he was repaired and restored by Man-At-Arms.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002)

Main article: Roboto (2002)Roboto appears in the relaunch of the Masters of the Universe toy line and 2002 cartoon series. In the new cartoon, he is introduced in the episode Roboto's Gambit, in which he is built by Man-At-Arms as a simple chess-playing robot. Desiring to apply his chess skills to the real battle around him, he upgrades himself to a warrior robot and effectively transfers his skills into the Masters' combat.

However, Teela refuses to let him join the fighting forces since he is not specifically designed for battle. However, during the prevailing incident of battling an army of small bone monsters controlled by Tri-Klops, which doubles its numbers every time it is destroyed, it is Roboto's analysis that determines the only way to defeat it is to attack Tri-Klops directly. To do so, Roboto advises He-Man of his idea and uses himself as a self-sacrifice to draw the enemy's attention to allow the superhero to approach his target. While He-Man is successful, Roboto is overwhelmed and seemingly destroyed before the enemy can be neutralized. Teela mourns his destruction and berates herself for not appreciating his courage and skills when offered. However, to her relief, her father then announces that she will have that opportunity as he presents the fully repaired Roboto who is ready to assume the duties Teela gladly offers. Subsequent episodes see him serving as the Masters' combat analyst.

A notable point about Roboto in the new series is that his portrayal, as well as his voice, seem to differ between episodes. Although portrayed as strong and confident in his debut appearance, subsequent appearances in The Sweet Smell of Victory and Separation show him as lacking in confidence, while his understanding of the human world around him often comes across as amusingly simple rather than intelligent. He is also given a lighter, softly-spoken voice in these episodes, which some fans have compared to Michael Jackson. However, most episodes in season 2 restore him to his original personality and voice.

ain article: Roboto (Revelation)

Roboto was build by Man-At-Arms, who imprinted all of his memories and neural pathways into him at the time. As such, Roboto saw Duncan has his father and Teela as his (adopted) sister.

I am still feeling cautious, but my interest is piqued. Really liked hearing John Erwin at the beginning.

Just seeing Cringer/Battlecat is enough for me. He was always my favorite part of He-Man, so including him in the live action version gets a thumbs up from me!

The intro broke me. I wasn't ready for that.

I wonder if the intro is actually part of the film and it's a whole meta thing - not wild about it but as long as we're off Earth relatively soon it'll be fine. Costume designs seem hit and miss so far, but I'm more interested in the world of Eternia - I'm liking the LOTR looking statues for example.

I think Man at Arms, Teela, and Cringer all look pretty good. Adam is just wearing a pink button up shirt which fits but I’m more curious about the actual look for He-Man. Roboto is the only one I’m meh on from the trailer.

Looks like they went with a Hulk Buster design, which is a shame. It's likely Mattel had a big say on script, casting and designs, so I'm assuming Travis Knight was likely just making the best of the options available.

Looks pretty good. My only minor thing is the actor playing He-Man looks kind of small if you ask me. Skeletor looks good and the overall tone looks fun.
