Will Eisner's Spirit with Frank Miller writing/directing...

My god.....just watched the trailer. That movie is gonna suck ass big time. It looks like something from bloody "Project Runway"....looks like an ultra gay fashion show of a trailer. Mr. Jackson, stop taking the money for old rope roles.

I don't agree with your assessment that comics and films are different mediums. In essence (and I am using Sin City as an example here) if one takes a carbon copy of a comic and puts it on screen, the comic is being used as a script and a story board. Miller knew is own work while doing Sin City, here is taking someone else's work and trying to make it his own, which ironically is what he hated and why it took so damn long to get Sin City on screen. I suppose I might be a little too harsh here, but he is making himself quite a target right now.

I think the tone is all wrong. Frank Miller has just lost it. Really, Allstar Batman reads terrible and it seems the spirit will be the same fashion in seeing how much Frank hates women and original content.
Cooke was right in worrying. At least he knew the source material well. Miller seems to have just bastardized it in all the wrong ways.

Well, slutting up every female character in the spirit for the first aspect.
Then pick up a copy of All Star Batman... you'll see that women to Miller are either Sluts or Whores.

He even managed to make Batgirl sound awful... Or did you not read the latest news

Yea, I see this one flopping big time. The trailers have all looked like half-baked cutting room footage from a bad Sin City rip-off. And that's being generous. I don't think Miller is ready to handle a feature film on his own, but I suppose time will tell.

First trailer looked like a sin city porn...second trailer looks good - another sin city basically...it ain't Will Eisner's Spirit though...But then again, would we want Spirit to be interpreted like Warren Beaty's DICK TRACY? Probably not, so this may turn out pretty good, especially if it's rated R.

It's not rated R, as evidenced by the new trailer's PG-13 logo on the greenband screen.
I still think this movie looks fucking awesome. Apparently I'm the only one.
I would take the complaints about it looking like Sin City more seriously if we had a) been barraged with movies that looked like Sin City in the time between Sin City and The Spirit or b) it had been done by someone other than Frank Miller. My opinion is that, first off, if anyone should be copying Sin City, it should be Frank Miller and not some hack director who thought black and white slickness was all the style their movie needed, and this is THE ONLY MOVIE that I can think of to have this visual motif since 2005.
I mean, look at it this way: Miller is adapting The Spirit. If Miller was doing it in comic book form, nobody would complain that he drew it like he draws all his other comics, because that's his freaking style. Sure, if he ends up directing, say, a romantic comedy and it looks exactly like this, then maybe you've got a complaint, but I don't think this qualifies. Plus, to a lesser extent, I would argue that it doesn't look exactly like Sin City, and those moments are the parts that look the most interesting, but obviously it is clearly similar.

I think the complaint is more valid because it's Frank Miller. It shows that he's in a creative rut and is incapable of respecting the great work Will Eisner did, despite being a protege of Eisner. Not only that, but Miller has complained bitterly in the past about people who tried to adapt his work and made drastic changes. So now, not only is he disrespecting a pioneer in the comic book field, but he's also a hypocrite.
Furthermore, not all of Miller's work looks like Sin City. The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Strikes Back certainly don't.

Yeah. DKSB had a more "Used toilet paper" look and it read as if it was.
I really wish someone who could have respected Will Eisner's Spirit could have worked on it. Darwyn Cooke or someone on an animated version would have been amazing.

What the... it's pg-13?
Man, from the previous trailer, which did look interesting, I thought for sure this would be R. The new trailer doesn't look that great. Too bad, I was all excited when the teaser with the untouchables theme came out.
Probably will wait for the dvd too.

Me, personally? I don't think it'll be good because of Miller. I would like to see a pg-13 version of the film without Frank.

I like the look of the film. I'm still holding out whether it'll be good or not for later but..for now. It's ok. I just hope that it doesn't chew more than it can hold with everything it's doing.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind more a non miller Spirit film. Of course...my mind wonders to Dick Tracy..and well..I dunno. I liked Dick Tracy, blame nostalgia of my childhood for my blindness if you thinks it's bad, but I don't want to see another film like that especially with The Spirit in it. The visual tone of Miller's film is very much his tone, but if he gets the characters and the tone that Eisner put in...I hold hope. Wasn't Eisner against an adaption of The Spirit?
