How so? With an extended run time, Mann is able to take his time developing the characters, giving us insights into their various motivations and backgrounds. We learn their habits, hear their jokes. We soak them in, begin to inhabit their skins a bit. As a result, the railway climax has a far deeper emotional resonance than would have been possible if events had been rushed and individual personalities underdeveloped.

wow, really bad reviews. Seeing these two ham it up and the proposition of some Carla Gugino sex scenes will be the only thing making this worth a rental, looks like.

It's them in the same movie.. I really wasn't expecting Heat-like greatness. I think it will still be fun.
Looks like I'll see Burn After Reading instead unless I can get a hold of one of those Best Buy things.

Nevermind. Evidently she remains completely clothed and the "rough sex" is tame. I'll still give it a try on video... but my heart won't be in it ; )

I dont post much, but some of these movies some of yall were discussing werent that bad.
88 minutes -was fairly decent
Home of the brave -was ok(and 50 cent did a fantastic job, I dont really like his music, but do listen to rap).
Edison Force- was good
Not every movie is going for a grammy or emmy or an award.

Personally I think this movie looks pretty damn good.

After reading all of the bad reviews for Righteous Kill, it looks like I'll redeem those free tickets (from Best Buy) for Traitor instead.
One would think that DeNiro and Pacino together in a movie would be hard to screw up...so much for that rationale.

Just caught Righteous Kill this afternoon. If I had to sum it up using one word, it would be "predictable." Fortunately, my expectations were tempered by everyone in this thread.

In point of fact, NO THEATRICAL MOVIE is going for a grammy or emmy - those are music and TV awards...and any movie with both DE NIRO and PACINO should be striving for Oscar gold, otherwise it'll be considered a letdown... and on the 88 minutes, Home of the Brave and Edison Force front - Holy shit you have lower standards for the movies you watch, because ALL of those movies were a complete and utter waste of my time...
My fault on the awards, maybe your standards are to high, or your somehow a stuck up douche!
I wasnt saying those movies are the best thing since sliced bread but they werent that bad and I have seen alot of movies that are worse.
Who are you to say that any movie with these two should strive for an oscar, really should they.

Wow. I don't know if you are being facetious with this post. But if you aren't, I had no idea it was possible for a human being to fail so much as you clearly, positively do here.
You have 100% failed. I award you no points. And may the Almighty God have mercy on your wretched "soul".

Well, this stuck up douche just expects most movies to be entertaining...I guess sometimes that is too much to ask. I'll be seeing Righteous Kill tonight and will report back with my douche thoughts.

Epic maybe...masterpiece it is not. There were too many characters and storylines they tried to exploit but went nowhere. Natalie Portman's attempted suicide. Dennis Haysbert. I think they should've kept a tighter focus on the three leads.

Completely agree DRG, that framing device really knocked the movie down a notch...which considering how shitty it was to begin with is quite a feat. Jon Avnet never met a medium/close up he didn't like - really makes the geography of the scenes hard to decipher. The weird split screen technique used in the shrink sequences was a strange choice (It worked when it was split between De Niro and Pacino, but then it became 24 for no good reason, with just two different close ups of the same guy....).
Also, Pacino must have an 'aging starlett' clause in his contract because most of his closeups are EXTREMELY soft...distractingly so. The dialogue was flat, the pacing was sluggish and the twists are predictable and by the book... Pacino and Avnet are on a real roll...88 Minutes blew and so does Righteous Kill. Why Pacino and De Niro signed up for this, I'll never know. ($$$$$) 1.5/5

I saw this today with the free ticket from Best Buy and felt very underwhelmed. For a movie that is bringing together 2 movie icons, this was the best script they could come up with??? I felt like I was watching a script for one of Sony Pictures low budget Direct to Video features.
I thought Pacino and De Niro did the best that they could do with such formulaic material. I've seen the same type of story done much better.
For a decent cast, there were so many thankless roles. Dennehy was wasted as the Lieutenant. Wahlberg and Leguizamo added nothing. Gugino's role was probably the most thankless of the bunch.
Some issues I had:
Very disappointing movie. The entire film was one big tease with an empty result. I'll generously give it a C- only because of De Niro and Pacino.

With a so-so setup, the ending took FOREVER to get to the ending credits. Bad script with poorly scripted red herrings, and it didn't take too long to figure it out after watching the first 10 minutes, but getting there wasn't too interesting of a ride, and the unsatisfying ending was drawn out far too long.
I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

Caught this today -- strictly a paycheck movie for DeNiro & Pacino. B-movie script with sub-par execution. I too saw the twist from a mile away. Much of the time I kept thinking its been 13 years since these two sat face-to-face at a diner...

I knew nothing of the film before I saw it. I enjoyed it well enough. It was good seeing DeNiro and Pacino play off each other. As for the movie itself, it was pretty good. Maybe I'm more forgiving though since I only paid for matinee pricing.
I didn't like the twist however. Yes it's easy to see coming, but I was still surprised... surprised that they wen't that route. I hate how all thrillers have to have a twist these days. The way the film was going(the original setup) was fine, and would have worked right up to the end without the twist. Needlessly tacked on. All that being said, it didn't seem like anything special that you couldn't see on NYPD: Blue or any other cop show on tv.
From the best I can gather is that:

Well I went to go see this yesterday cause my power went at at my apartment.
...And I got to see about the first 45 minutes of this movie before the power went out at the movie theater as well. The first 45 minutes were pretty decent I thought. It really wasnt much more than a pretty looking well casted tv crime movie or crime of the week on one of those crime shows on network TV but just watching De Niro and Pacino together is quite a treat no matter how mediocre the film is. I got a readmission ticket but think I'll just take my girlfriend to see Burn after reading tomorrow instead of going back to see the rest of Righteous Kill. Im sure I'll check out the rest of this one on DVD.
Hopefully we can get one more great team-up of these two actors in a great project. Maybe Micheal Mann will bring these two back together in another great masterful film like HEAT.

I thought this one was fun. Entertaining as hell. Nothing ground breaking or new, but I enjoyed it. Pacino and De Niro are fantastic and it was fun to see them together. Won't win or shouldn't win any awards but I had a good time.
