Good one. My dad told me a story about when he saw it in theaters. There were tons of people. People were sitting in the aisles and stuff. He left, horribly terrified - white as a ghost. It stuck with him for awhile.

I saw it 25 years later, on DVD, and then at a local theater (RIP Madstone Theaters). While I enjoyed and appreciated the avant-garde nature of it. And there were a handful of tense parts, along with some blunt violence that is burned into my mind. But it wasn't something that really gave me that terrified, sinking feeling that a good modern horror movie does.

Sadly most of them. I think The Exorcist and The Omen still hold up pretty well but most others just don't cut it anymore..........

I remember seeing The Exorcist at the cinema when it first came out. It was an absolute phenomenon (and I mean world-wide).

I can't think of another horror movie that had as much impact as it did. And that includes The Blair Witch Project, which I consider to be pretty dull anyway...

Nothing came close to The Exorcist.
