I still would have rather preferred a live action movie that brought back the suits, but with better technology as it is 2007. But, I found the movie to be pretty good. Faithful to the original film, and sort of a blend of the cartoon as well. There were things that happened in this movie that immediately made me think of the original film. Casey Jones/Ralph squabbling over beating a thug up, Ralph lying injured on April's floor, the dissention between Ralph and Leo, Ralph yelling when Leo was taken.
I also think they got the voices DOWN. Sounded almost exactly like the ones from the movie. And even similar to the ones in the cartoon.
Would've liked a better, more realistic approach to the animation. The women's bodies had this very unnatural, unrealistic look to them. Ultra thin, no thickness in the waist. The character models for the humans had very big, wide, "Disney/Mickey Mouse" eyes.
But I thought the anger and character of Ralph was great. All the turtles personalities were very well done. I didn't care for the villains, though. I didn't hate it, but would've much preferred them to be fighting villains I know and love like Shredder, the foot, or even some from the cartoon like Krang, Rocksteddy/Bebop.
Overall, it was good. Would've loved a little more of a darker tone like the original film had. Wished fights scenes had a little more impact and "oomph" to them. But it was pretty good.

Agree one hundred percent with everything you said.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I want to know one thing: Did the movie rewrite Shredder's character? Ie, I believe Kri is a character from the 2K3 cartoon. So is the history of Shredder in the new movie based on the Shredder of the new cartoon (where he was an Utrom alien) or is he the classic '80s Shredder?

He's actually neither. He's the shredder more in keeping with the comics and directly from the 1991 movie since this film follows that one's timeline.

Looks like she's been around since the comics:

I saw TMNT in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse. Before the show they played about 20 minutes of old Turtle clips including that music video. Oh that was bad.
I had only seen the original movie before. I came out of this one having enjoyed it. Won't ever call myself a Turtles fan or anything. Probably feel the same way watching Transformers this summer. Just my age I guess.

Caught a Sat. morning showing with my 4-year old and gf. We loved it. Far better than I expected. There was enough action and kid-friendly moments(my boy's favorite scene: the skateboarding in the sewers) to keep my kid entertained throughout and my gf and I loved the detailed animation (as a lit. major, I got a huge kick out of the bust of Homer in one of the scenes) and positive themes.
Admittedly, going in, I was expecting video game CGI cut scene-quality animation but many of the scenes blew me away. Great stuff.
Easily one of my favorite animated films.

Just watched it today. I liked it. Not really on the level of Pixar for animation but still pretty good. It definitely seemed to take a direct cue from the Eastman & Laird comics that were dark.
Pretty amusing for Michaelangelo to be dressing up as a ninja turtle for his job.

Seen it today and loved it. Much better then I expected. Some great action scenes. some of the scenes looked amazing, Ralph and Leo Fighting in the Rain was awesome. I loved Ralphs Suit too. I was waiting for the line " I love being a turtle!" and got it at the end
The only down sides was April O'niel felt wierd being a lara Croft character and Casey Jones didnt translate well either. And Splinter looked alittle wierd and his voice was off. Still a great movie and growing up watching the cartoon ( i am 22 right now) I loved it. Hope it gets a sequel considering they mentioned an old foe.
CGI though for the most part was excellent, the turtles looked great but Still would of perfered a Live action flick. Still Awesome movie. 8/10

so did the director/producers of this movie ever say why they weren't doing a reboot? with the new style (animation vs. live-action), you'd assume a reboot would be in order.

As one such event was brewing while the 4 of us were in the living room, I turn, without smirking or even acknowledging the perfect opportunity for said reference and said, "Fight?" to which he matter of factly replies, "Fight." 5 second pass.
"Pork rine?"
"Pork rine!"
Geeky? Yes. Over-committing to a Ninja Turtles gag? Sure. The best damn movie reference in the history of movie geekdom? Bet your ass.

Seen this twice already and it was great both times. I loved the rain fight. I really liked the bit at the end with Shredder's helmet, the TGRI canister, and the Sceptre of Time. That was a nice and simple way to establish this as the fourth film in the series.
As for the questions some have, I took it that Leo was sent away because, honestly, the issues between him and Raph weren't a new development and I think Splinter feared something like the near outcome of the rain fight would happen sooner or later. Leo was so into the big picture (keeping the turtles a well oiled fighting machine) he was blind to the fact that the strife between him and Raph was only getting worse. His inability to see that he was needed not just to bark orders and carry himself as the best and noblest of the bunch was a sign of poor leadership. He definitely needed the time away.
As for what the monsters were doing for the past 3000 years, the first three seemed to be a gargoyle, a cyclops, and a yeti. Although I have no clue what the others were supposed to be (there was that bug guy, the guy in the train and whatever the heck the all too adorably evil Jersey Devil was supposed to be), the first three seem to suggest that they are monsters of myth. So every tale of monsters throughout the world were actually accounts of these thirteen creatures.
I don't really think they were hanging out at the city but were rather drawn the next site of the alignment of the stars of Kikan. This explains why Winters was expecting them.
Oh and Karai said they "passed the test" and would have business that "involves familiar faces from your past". That to me suggests a group of people and not just Shredder (if he even returns at all). I also get a vibe that she intends to recruit the Turtles into the Foot Clan given that they are, in a way, members of the Foot. Afterall, Hamato Yoshi, Splinters "master", was once a member of the Foot Clan.
Anyhoo, I'm looking foward to see this yet again and I will deinitely be purchasing this when it's released on HD DVD.

Anyone know if they'll release the score to this film on CD and where I might order it? I think Klaus Badelt did a great job and I've been looking foward to getting the score on CD but all I've found is a soundtrack CD with a bunch of songs and only two tracks from the film's score.

A TMNT sequel is looking more likely now
June 28, 2007 - Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been wondering ever since TMNT opened in first place last March whether there would be a sequel to the CG-animated toon. Now comes word that their hopes may not be in vain.
According to The-5th-Turtle.Blogspot.com, "As of two weeks ago Imagi Entertainment (the TMNT movie animation studio) informed Mirage Studios that there was a 50-50 chance of a CGI film sequel. Last week they upped the odds to 70-30 in favor of a sequel, as talks between Imagi and their distribution partners Warner Brothers and the Weinstein Group seem to be heading in a positive direction."
Kevin Munroe, who directed the first TMNT, suggested in interviews around the time of the film's release that the sequel could see the return of Shredder.

Good news
, but with a budget of $34m and a WWG of $92 (not counting home video yet), wasn't it a no-brainer?

Indeed, you are correct, sir. I thank you. Nothing like a 3 month bump reminding me of my attrocious spelling to make me glad it's Friday, aka "drinking night."
