I heard numerous people, including my roommate, say that she's not attractive. I guess different strokes for different folks, but I think she's smoking. I actually think she's better looking now than when she was in Speed.

Oh stop. Not even close. Gwyneth can act AND sing. Plus she looks great.

Like I've said, I've always had a thing for her. I wouldn't go that far to say she looks better now than she did 13 years ago, but I still think she looks great.

I think you've mistaken her for her husband. I know they're both pale, gangly and effeminate, but one's got longer hair.

Yeah, that was a turkey. I'm talking about two careers side by side. You'll find few actors who haven't had at least one turkey on their resume. But I'm defending Gwyneth's accompliments next to Sandra's. And it's not even close, sorry. Not box-office totals, performances and films.

Answer: People keep seeing her movies.
How is nearly breaking even considered a success? Granted, Two Weeks Notice did OK and Lake House was kind of OK, but Miss Congeniality barely made more than it cost and it warranted a sequel?

It might be OK to pad your catalog of movies from a studio's perspective with some movies that break even along with bigger hits, but I thought the studios were more interested in making money, not barely covering the budgets they had on the movie to begin with. If Kevin Smith turned in a movie that barely made budget, would he be considered a success? Jersey Girl made about a million more than the budget cost the studio, so it did make money, maybe not the two million more Miss Congeniality made, but it did make money, and it's not considered a success.

The question was "Why does she still have a career?", not if said career was a success. I don't think BO and profitability needs another go-over here.

Why do you think that financially the movie is done once the US gross is calculated? They're not just barely covering budgets. They make a ton of money on DVD, they sell soundtracks, they get money for selling the network television rights, they make money from the overseas markets, etc...

The Drew Barrymore movie, "Music & Lyrics" has made about 40 million in the US. Overseas, it has already made another 40 plus million, but people in the US just think "Oh, that Music & Lyrics movie was marginally successful." It'll make another 30-40 million on DVD, plus it'll re-run on USA and Lifetime for the next 15 years.

What has she ever done, other then Speed? And that is not saying alot. She is more overrated then Julia Roberts is.

Once you factor in that's JUST US box-office, and not including overseas and video, that is pretty good for the budget. Now if she were making 100 million dollar budgeted pictures, she's got a problem. But 45-48 million dollar budgets that do better than break even at the box-office aren't much when people are making 300 million dollar pictures.

Just because her movies don't fit your personal tastes, doesn't make that any less of a dumb question.

1995- While You Were Sleeping / $182 million worldwide
1995- The Net / $110 million worldwide
1996- A Time to Kill / $145 million worldwide
1997- Speed 2 / $164 million worldwide
1998- Hope Floats / $60 million
1998- Practical Magic / $68 million worldwide
1999- Forces of Nature / $93 million worldwide
2000- 28 Days / $62 million worldwide
2000- Miss Congeniality / $212 worldwide
2002- Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood / $73 million worldwide
2002- Two Weeks Notice / $199 million worldwide
2005- Crash / $93 million worldwide
2005- Miss Congeniality 2 / $101 million worldwide
2006- The Lake House / $114 million worldwide

Outside of maybe 5-10 actors, that's as about as consistent a box office draw as there is.

Personally I find her to be like nails on a chalkboard, But that does not change the fact that she is huge star and has a lot of fans throughout the world.

I find her attractive, and she does a decent job at making the same-ish movie over and over. As long as I space them out, it makes a nice breather for the girlfriend and I to watch.

Personally I think she's trying to single-handedly spearhead the "time-twisting romantic film with a car crash twist" genre.

'Cause she's the only big star who plays the same character in every movie? I guess you think John Wayne, Katherine Hepburn, and Cary Grant stank too.

Re: Why Does Sandra Bullock Still Have A Movie Career?

Who would've thought a year ago that Sandra Bullock would have two $100+ gross hits this year??!?!
