Wild Hogs doing well doesn't mean the world has ended. It just means people wanted to turn their brain off.
(I'd rather see Wild Hogs again than Breach or Smokin' Aces).

"People turning their brain off" is kind of overused as a term. I think it's just what the general American public wants to see all the time. Look at the #1 movies at the box office for the past few months.... Norbit, Wild Hogs, Epic Movie, Ghost Rider, The Messengers, etc...
Doesn't mean they are necessarily bad films, but most people will agree that they're certainly not the best. But, I can see how they would be good family entertainment.
If I have kids below a certain age, I'm certainly not going to take my family to see Children of Men or Zodiac, even though I think those films are better than the #1 movies I listed above.

I wouldn't even say that, it just means that people don't always want to overthink when they go to the theatres. I have no doubt that if Planes, Trains and Autmobiles came out now, the critical types would poo poo it (hell they have back in its day for all I know.)
Wild Hogs is fun for a lot of us. If you can't have fun during it too bad for you.

The difference is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles had people known for genuine comedy. Steve Martin and John Candy, great duo. I don't think the same can be said for any mix of Travolta, Lawrence, Macy, or Allen.
