Zodiacs fewer screens and longer running time is a reason for it. Plus, even though the movie looks terrible, Wild Hogs does have alot of star power behind it.

Seantn 03-03-07 11:34 AM

But even for a 2 hour, 40 minute run time, I expected more. It's not on 1,000 screens, it still has a decent number of theaters showing it.

Joe Molotov 03-03-07 11:40 AM

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I found out Zodiac was pushing three hours. That and an R rating kinda kills it's mass market opportunity. Also, even though I'm sure it's good, the trailers didn't really seem that impressive.

RichC2 03-03-07 12:07 PM

I didn't expect Zodiac to do too well, it hasn't had a huge advertising campaign, and it's a topic that has been covered numerous times before and has not been able to generate much interest.

Fincher flicks generally don't do that great out the gate, they usually find their home on video (The Game, Fight Club).

Wild Hogs looks awful. After this weekend, Wild Hogs and Norbit will have both opened to over $30 million. Yikes.

Yeah, my local theaters are only showing it 3 times a day due to the running time versus Wild Hogs which is playing 6 times a day. The R rating certainly doesn't help broaden the appeal of the movie, but a lot of it does have to do with the running time.

"Wild Hogs" making more than $30 million opening weekend makes me want to quit movies!

resinrats 03-03-07 02:07 PM

What's the deal with nobody on this site liking comedies with some slapstick in it?

FantasticVSDoom 03-03-07 02:38 PM

Wild Hogs at least appeals to the older segment of society... Its the type of film my mother in law and baby boomers will go see.

people go to the movies to laugh with WILDHOGS, no wants to sit for 2 hours and 40 minutes to see a depressing movie like Zodiac. simple as that. would you take your family to go see Zodiac? Zodiac will do good on dvd. WildHogs will kick ass for awhile because of Tim Allen who joe six pack can identify with.

:( Disappointed to see that Black Snake Moan isn't doing better. I was hoping its success might spur on a whole new wave of copycat movies featuring scantily clad women chained to radiators.

I guess the name Samuel L Jackson and the word "snake(s)" just doesn't make for big boxoffice.

which is ironic considering "Joe Somebody" tanked. and the day people identify with a former drug addict who was in jail is the day i quit movies!

Seantn 03-03-07 07:13 PM

Then quit movies already! Nobody will ever believe you unless you follow through with your threats, ya know ;)

Are we talking about Tim Allen or Robert Downey, Jr.?

Both fit the bill.

PopcornTreeCt 03-03-07 07:49 PM

When I saw Zodiac this afternoon the theatre was sold out.

It's more a question of liking good comedies with some slapstick in it .....

Thats just it, the trailor didn't look all that great but the kids and my wife wanted to see it; the movie is actually pretty damn funny. Still I didn't think it would do this well...

If you have not seen it you really can't make that judgement.

I was invited to a free screening and watched it for about thirty minutes until my friend and I got bored of it and we snuck into the the theater nearby to see Reno 911! The first thirty minutes was pretty boring. It was like a sitcom plot stretched out. Seriously.

people identify with his Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor character from Home Improvement and also that even though he served two years and four months in jail ,he paid for his crimes and was given a second chance. In America people like to hear stories about doing something good with second chances.
