The Astronaut Farmer - quick review

Although, it's basically has a Rocky storyline, the film works on quite a few levels. The gist of plot: Charlie Farmer wants to go on the biggest ride out there: to orbit the earth in his own constructed space capsule. He and his family face quite a few obstacles in their quest to make Charlie's vision a reality, but overall, there's an underlying spirit of optimism and dogged determination to fight for one's dreams.

Billy Bob Thornton turns in an understated, but earnest performance as Charlie, and Virginia Madsen is fine as Audie, Charlie's wife.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

I didn't care for this movie. I realized from the trailers that this feel-good "follow your dreams" family film probably was not my type of movie, but I'm a Billy Bob fan. While the performances are fine, the story just wasn't very engaging to me. I could imagine children would be bored.

I've only seen the trailers.

But, it sure does look like a remake of the 1979 TV movie Salvage with Andy Griffith.

I'm skipping this. I already have Space Cowboys on HD DVD.

...that makes about as much sense as saying "I'm skipping it because I already Armageddon on HD DVD."

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. I tried to like it, but it was extremely pointless and ultimately boring.

1/10

It was decent. I wouldn't buy it, but it was worth a rental.

I might give it a 2/10, but I have to agree with your assessment.
