Total Recall

Re: Total Recall
I mean it doesn't seem any different than all the hype for the Dark Knight. For example, If people talk about the marketing, that's defended. Bane's voice, instantly defended. The only difference here is that it's one person (or a few) instead of a big amount who are this pumped for the movie.

All of which could have been done with practical effects. It's cool if you are pumped for this movie, but I just don't like his style. The scene from the Total Recall trailer looks fake and overly stylized to me, just like I felt Underworld was overly stylized with no real substance. The guy is trying way too hard to be cool, and I could care less for his characters or stories.

Well, the Arnold's version is a bit of a classic. A lot of people like to front and say it isn't, but it's great and it's due to those "subtle" nuances like a 3 titted martian.

Arnold version the last of his golden age of movies. 1982-1990 when he was a bonafide star.
Silver age:1991-1996, still good action hero but none of the verve of golden age.
Bronze age: 1997-2003

It's kind of funny seeing some dog Terrell - He actually made some good points and even wanted to discuss things further...I mean, I can't say what has happenned in other threads he's been in cause I don't know but it's clear that he is just excited and would like to discuss the film more.
For me, it looks decent - and I do like that opening shot as well. Not a big Colin Farrell fan - with the suprising exception of Fright Night but it looks pretty good.

T2 while groovy, is definitely kickng off a new phase of his career. It doesn't have the pulpyness of his last types of flicks. And plus its the first one where it does feel like its the 90s plus Arnold's slimmer frame. I cannot put it with the golden age (Conan-Total Recall) but it does add weight to silver age (T2-Eraser) where he's still into enjoyable action just not as iconic while Bronze age (Batman and Robin-T3) he's just messing with us.

Re: Total Recall
It looks like a movie scene trying to look like a video game scene, which in turn is trying to look like a movie. If that doesn't make any sense, it's like someone mimicking a mimic.
Although I liked Underworld to a degree, I felt that film was overly stylized as well.

Re: Total Recall
I would wager the studio would be very grateful to release this as a PG-13 with a budget that high. According to Wiki, the biggest budgeted movies of all time with an R rating are Troy, Terminator 3, Alexander, and the sequels to The Matrix. Colin Farrell didn't do too well the last time he headlined a mega-budget production!

I was shocked when I read what the budget was, who gave the go ahead for that? I wonder if it includes any of the money spent on the failed TR2 projects, like how Superman Returns budget included the money spent on Burton.

Re: Total Recall
Filming lasted for 4 months and I didn't read anything about re-shoots or delays. So this must have a shit ton of expensive f/x shots. The cast and crew doesn't contain any A-list talent, so I'm not sure how the budget got that large.

Re: Total Recall
I saw the full trailer today at the movies. It was wall-to-wall CGI. There were holographic displays, flying cars, storm trooper-looking robot cops, etc. It looked completely ridiculous. There's no possible way this is going to be better than the original (and I by no means think the original is a masterpiece). I almost laughed out loud when Kate Beckinsale popped up in full-on Underworld tough girl mode.
