Re: Total Recall

Airplane! (IMO, of course)
Touche'!!!

looking at the chair set-up where Farrell gets strapped in for his injection - it looks just like Arnold's chair with that orb thing behind his head.

A little bit, but not entirely. From what I've read, there will be a few throwbacks to the original film for fans. But the take is more serious and more faithful to the Dick novelette. We see if that turns out to be the case. I don't expect the three-breasted mutant to get in. But since this film doesn't go to Mars, I'm not sure how they would explain it anyway.

like Terrell said...I'm kind of digging the more serious tone. I love Total Recall. A great product of it's era w/ effects that are still amazing to me...but...I'd like a more serious one and see wtf happens there too.

Re: Total Recall

I got a serious "Minority Report" vibe from the trailer...I dearly hope it won't be as sterile, formulaic, and forgettable.

Re: Total Recall

Trailer impressed me.

Though, I really never could watch the original Total Recall from beginning to end for some reason.

Both Recall and Minority Report are based on PKD stories so that might be the vibe you are getting.

None of which describes Minority Report.

Re: Total Recall

It definitely looks like a serious movie compared to the original. The original kinda qualifies as a comedy. I'm usually always against remakes but I do enjoy some remakes like Halloween which I thought was pretty cool, even though the original is much better. Plus I love Sci-Fi and futuristic scenery. The scene where Farell is leaning on the balcony reminds me of Bladerunner which I so much love.

I must say I like this new trailer. Beckinsale and Biel are two chicks that I wouldn't mind if they farted on my face...but yeah I would give this a chance.

I also love Minority Report which in imo is a bad ass movie.

Re: Total Recall

Looks promising.

Total Recall is a movie which is good, but it's not really well made, and it's over the top cheesy. But I like it.

I'm down for a more serious version.

"If I'm not me then who the hell am I?"

Same line from Arnold's flick. Was that line in the book, too?

Calling the short story a book is a bit of a stretch since it was only a few pages long. It's been years since I read it but I don't recall that line in the short story.

I don't think you're meant to take it that they made the short story literally. Of course they have to add new elements. It would be better to say the film is more faithful to Dick's story in tone and spirit.

I haven't read the short story in years, but I will before i see this film.

Re: Total Recall

I love the original. New trailer looks...eh.

That "bullet-time" fight scene was waaaay overdone, but I'm sure the 14 year-olds will eat it up.

Re: Total Recall

I like how Bryan Cranston has blown up so much that he can be the surprise at the end of a trailer.

Or perhaps that's just me. Either way, I'm definitely seeing this now.

Re: Total Recall

I don't know what it is, but I can't buy Colin Farrell as a likeable protagonist. He just seems eeeeevil in some way.

The Biel vs. Beckinsale punch-up looks awesome.

Otherwise, by the trailer at least, it seems to lift the plot points off the Arnie movie. Looks more generic and unimaginative than I thought it would be, with this kind of budget.

This looks more in tone and spirit of a serious take on the original film rather than the short story.

Spoiler:
Nothing happens in the short story. A guy wants a memory where he saved the world. Turns out he already had saved the world (by pure chance) and an alien race deemed the Earth would not be destroyed while he lived. So Rekall left his memories buried and he was none the wiser.

That's literally the entire story. The only thing the short story has in common with the original film and this remake is the theme of wish fullfillment. But the wish fullfillment angle was amplified in the original film and likewise, it seems, in the remake.

Re: Total Recall

Looks like Minority Report, which I was a moderate fan of. I'll likely pass on this in theaters, but I might catch it on cable.

Re: Total Recall

Looks like Minority Report in spots but the future world reminds me of a less colorful version of the one in Fifth Element. Something just looks really fake about it.

Minority Report is a great flick, like the original Total Recall a good bit as well, hopefully this turns out alright, though I haven't actually seen a Len Wiseman directed flick I like... at least his wife and Biel are in it.

Re: Total Recall

The future world reminds me of Mass Effect. The armor those soldiers are wearing and the cars make me think of Mass Effect.

Re: Total Recall

I don't like the part where the main character shoots the armored police. The police look like characters from a video game, and when he starts shooting them it felt just like a video game, to the point that it made it look MORE fake.

I think it will be good, but just that scene looks bad.
