Even some news sources don't know it's about a crocodile...From yahoo:
========= The weekend's other new movies had ho-hum debuts. Universal's youth drama "Alpha Dog," featuring Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster and Justin Timberlake in a tale of drugs, kidnapping and murder, opened at No. 7 with $6.1 million. Disney's "Primeval," a thriller with Dominic Purcell and Orlando Jones as part of a news crew pursuing a prolific serial killer, premiered at No. 8 with $6 million. |
Maybe Rogue will be better, imdb has it listed as an August release. I've been reading stories about Gustav and it's pretty fascinating, I want to check out some of the docs made...

Wow...this movie BLEW. It was shot well and looked good, but the editing and pacing were terrible. For a movie supposedly about a giant crocodile, the beast only kills 3 people onscreen, only ONE of those deaths is entertaining and the damn croc is only in it for less than 5 minutes... the rest is about an African warlord and corruption, relegating the Gustave/Killer Crocodile storyline to be the B plot, while the A story is pretentious/tedious and not what anyone in the theatre was hoping to see.
The acting was pretty brutal. Dominic Purcell was alright, but I'm sure that's just because I like Prison Break and gave the guy a pass on this...he's lucky they aren't heavily promoting his involvement. Orlando Jones was anything but funny in this...there were a few awkward moments of racial humour (including him saying that slavery was a good thing) that really really did not work. Probably one of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory...I mean, direct to disc creature features like Komodo, Python etc. deliver more of what they promise than this movie does. If you want a flat, humourless creature flick that doesn't really use the creature, has little to no gore (1 exception), uses slow motion and flash cuts in ridiculous places, keeps some of the "money shots" up to our imagination by cutting away and never paying off anything it's set up - then Primeval is for you. Everyone else should stay away. MATT |

I'm not making judgments, I'm honestly surprised anybody here or on rotten tomatoes liked Primeval. I'm not going to call it the downfall of society if you did, but what parts were entertaining? I guess I'm even in the minority that the only thing that saved me from walking out (aside from mostly not knowing what else was starting at that time :) ) were Orlando Jones' occassionally funny one liners, especially the one about the white woman. |
Kind of remind me of a teaser trailer of Ghost and the Darkness, where the trailer show Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer stalking through the grassland holding their hunting rifle. I thought for sure it would be some kind of supernatural thriller. Examine my surprise when I saw the movie.

I knew it was a croc going into seeing it. I went right after watching Schottenheimer blow the SD/NE game, and I felt like tearing into him, Tom Brady and Eric Parker. The movie was a solid release, a lot less costly than my other choice, breaking everything in my apartment.

How can you not know it's a crocodile movie? That's like being surprised that SSSSSSS is a snake movie. |
