okay... so that we're on the same page:

Alligator and Caiman Range: alligators are found in the southern United States and eastern China; caimans are found in Central America and South America
Habitat: grassy swamps and slow-moving rivers

Crocodile Range: Mexico, Central and South America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Australia
Habitat: grassy swamps and slow-moving rivers

so endeth the lesson. :D

Giles 01-10-07 10:24 AM

imdb also states this twist to the plot as well,
Spoiler:
suggesting that some angry native Africans are out to get them as well

Plot Outline: A news team is sent to South Africa to capture and bring home a legendary 25-foot crocodile. Their difficult task turns potentially deadly when a warlord targets them for death.

This is sounding better and better. Was this just old and sitting around so they released it out of the blue, or did Orlando Jones need work this badly? I need a ridiculous movie break, I'm probably there this weekend.

IMO, it's *very* misleading. I thought it might be something worth seeing, but I'll now be taking it off my list of potential views.

iggystar 01-10-07 10:53 AM

Very misleading, I thought it was about some primitive monster-man or something.

Seantn 01-10-07 12:42 PM

Whether the trailer lied or not, it still looked like a crappy movie.

PopcornTreeCt 01-10-07 03:51 PM

I'll agree that its very misleading. Though, I'd much rather see a crocodile eating people movie than a serial killer one. As it stands now, I'll wait for Primeval to hit Sci-Fi channel.

FinkPish 01-11-07 01:23 AM

I started seeing some new ads tonight that expose the fact that the "serial killer" is not human, and I saw a couple of really quick shots of some bigass crocodile jaws. So maybe this was a plan as a phased roll out of ads that slowly gave more information away. Or maybe they realized that people weren't quite getting the idea of the movie at all.

I've been seeing those tonight as well. Much more accurate advertising, that actually makes it clear that a croc is the killer.

Spoiler:
I guess now the "twist" is going to be that despite the references in the ads to the killer being a he, that the croc is actually a she - that gives birth during the end of the film. At least this isn't a "lie" as the last tv spots seemed to be.

JaxComet 01-11-07 07:46 AM

Come on now. This isn't misleading at all! :D

Synopsis:
In one of the most remote places on earth, a bloodthirsty serial killer has claimed over 300 victims, and is still at large to this day. Now, inspired by the true story of the world's most prolific killer, comes PRIMEVAL, a nail-biting horror-thriller that follows an American news crew determined to capture this terrifying murderer alive.

Tommy Ceez 01-11-07 10:26 PM

Unless the movie is NOT going to have deafeningly loud sountrack crashes to indicate when we should be scared, then its not misleading

movieking 01-12-07 01:40 PM

This sucks! I wanted to go to a movie over the weekend that wasn't too overhyped, and I had decided to see this since I thought that it was a serial killer movie, but I don't want to see a freakin' crocodile movie.

Supermallet 01-12-07 01:50 PM

The reason the ads are misleading is because of all of that junk about mass graves. No way a croc is digging mass graves.

BravesMG 01-12-07 10:48 PM

Ummm... lets just say that there's a good reason they had to mislead you about this "movie." Holy crap was that awful. And not "so awful you need to see how bad" just something you should never allow to waste nearly 2 hours of your life. The dialogue was atrocious, the acting was horrendous, the "story" was hilariously awful, but it was all topped by the sub-SciFi level CGI. I'm going to spoiler the most unintentionally hilarious scene I've seen in a while.
Spoiler:
You haven't lived until you've seen a 50 foot crocodile animated at the level of a 12 year old chase a screaming Orlando Jones through an open field IN SLOW MOTION. It looked like my dog running with a coat one size too tight on.
Just please stay away from this junk, curiosity got the better of me, but trust me, there's not much I wouldn't have rathered done with 2 hours of my life.

TomOpus 01-13-07 11:27 AM

Hope you didn't have to pay to see it.

DJariya 01-13-07 08:40 PM

Just saw it today. All that running on Prison Break must have helped Dominic Purcell in this flick. I'm surprised that Disney financed what was essentially a B horror flick. Also, I was surprised the ads didn't even mention that Purcell was in this flick. Yeah, the dialogue and acting was bad. It will be on DVD by March or April.

It was mildly entertaining. I'd give it a C+

THANK YOU!!! For a minute there I thought I was the only one who was somehow able to see the 2 or 3 frame shots of the crocodile. But is this really a new spot? I could swear it's the same one I've been seeing all along.

Maybe not. To be honest I haven't exactly been riveted to the screeh when this trailer comes on.

The NY Times critic started off his review bitching about the fact that he had to waste $10.50 of the newspaper's money to see this, since there were no critic screenings. After reading his review, I suspect not many readers will be wasting their money.

I noticed on RT it was at 17% (which sounded high). Then I saw there were only 24 reviews (4 fresh). I guess it's another example that it's never good when there are no critic screenings.

How can you not know it's a crocodile movie? That's like being surprised that SSSSSSS is a snake movie.

Perhaps you haven't seen all the ads. There's one they've played a lot here on television. Mentions Jack the Ripper. Mentions the Zodiac killer. Then mentions "Gustave" and calls him a serial killer. No croc is shown, no "he's not human" tag. It's pure deception.

mllefoo 01-14-07 12:10 PM

The only one that gets played here, about twice in any given commercial break, shows the croc briefly and says, "he isn't human".

Either way, a movie called Primeval and set in Africa is either going to be about lions, or crocs.

sugardaddy 01-14-07 01:20 PM

Look, get over it. There was different ads.. most did not show a crocodile at any point.

From Reuters:

"Disney's "Primeval," a thriller with Dominic Purcell and Orlando Jones as part of a news crew pursuing a prolific serial killer, premiered at No. 8 with $6 million."

Would you assume.. a crocodile?

Seantn 01-14-07 01:23 PM

No way is it misleading. All the trailers show a crocodile
The trailer in theaters shows absolutely nothing about a crocodile.
