Best sidekicks in cinema?

After seeing "Rocky Balboa" recently i had the kick to watch them all from my Anthology collection (i was hesitant about V, but "my ring's outside" has to be heard again, so that will go in soon).

As I was watching them all i was paying particular attention to "Paulie", Burt Young's character. I was amazed that i didn't notice his performances before. he was simply perfect in the role and one of the main characters in the series that really didn't grow too much in depth and yet you feel sympathetic towards him throughout in some odd way. he makes you laugh hysterically one minute and then he gives a sage piece of advice that may be in a drunken stupor, but resonates so much.

Young made "Paulie" so genuine and hilarious. Through the first 4 movies that i've watched again and also in "Rocky Balboa" he was just the same throughout and really, really good.

Just pay close attention or you'll blink and miss it, but they really are Oscar worthy performances. They really are.

So who do you think was the best, most memorable sidekick character in film history and a little why?

Yakul from Princess Mononoke is probably my favorite one. For an animated character with almost no dialogue, I couldn't believe the love and sympathy I felt for him. (I'm sure in part to how Ashitaka regarded him.)

I wouldn't consider Han a sidekick to Luke, but Chewie is definitely a sidekick to Han (and, if not the best sidekick ever, one of the top).

Jeff Bridges as Lightfoot to Clint Eastwood's Thunderbolt (1974)

Kevin Smith as Silent Bob to Jason Mewes' Jay (1994-2006)

Billy Bob Thornton from A Simple Plan in 1998 (played Bill Paxton's younger brother).

Joe Pesci is a great sidekick to Robert DeNiro (1980's Raging Bull, 1990's GoodFellas, and 1995's Casino).
