Movies you've been to, that had applause at the end?

I've been to so many movies, but only two I remember, had applause at the end. Saving Private Ryan and American Wedding.

What about everyone else?

Lots of them, particularly when the director was present.

Beauty and the Beast - Opening day at the El Capitan in Hollywood. Applause at the end of the movie and a standing ovation for the Howard Ashman dedication at the end.

Fantasia 2000 - IMAX crowd applauded at the end of each segment.

Pirates of the Caribbean: DMC - Crowd went wild and applauded at the final reveal.

Return of the Jedi - Opening day at some theater in Long Beach, CA. Applause and cheers every chance something happened or someone came on screen (good crowd that morning).

Phantom Menace - Opening day. Applause and cheers during the first minute (20th Century Fanfare, Lucasfilm logo, Star Wars title).

No applause at the end tho.

Happens all the time on opening night. Usually with a sequel, or over hyped films.

This year I recall it happened for Babel, Borat, Pirates 2, Volver, Clerks II, For Your Consideration, The Prestige, The Departed... If the crowd is packed and it doesn't totally suck, I usualy find it gets applause.

I remember this as well for RotJ. The audience would applaud throughout the whole movie whenever a hero did something heroic. One of the best theater going experience I've ever had!

Independence Day. When the big ship over Area 51 started blowing up because of the jet taking out the main gun.

Phantom Menace. Clapping for the Lucas Logo, 'Long Time Ago' words, when the words Star Wars start going back, when the queen read off "R2-D2"'s name, when Darth Maul appeared for the fight and when it ended.

pmc: I think that scene is in the trailer.

Most recently, there was a LOT of clapping at Rocky Balboa. A lot.

People went nuts during the opening credits of the midnight showing of Superman Returns. I don't think we could really help it, that music and excitement just gets to ya!

People went bananas when I saw Mortal Kombat. Throughout the movie's fight scenes and the end.

There were a few hood-rats in front of us that would only cheer when a girl got hit.

You were right to think so. It is lame.
