I had to laugh when Eragon was over (and it was a 2/3 filled theater) and someone tried the slow clap to get people to applaud the movie, and 5 seconds of singular clapping resulted in silence amongst the rest of the audience trying to leave ASAP. Funny stuff.

See, if that was, in fact a reference, it was sly, subtle and clever. As opposed to this, which radiates toxic stupidity. Incidentally, I caught a trailer for this running in the commercial breaks on Showtime. Jeremy Irons really wrestling with some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard. I think they tried to help him out by having some shit on fire in the background, which distracted a little, but, still, bad. |
Saw the movie. Didn't think it was awful, just sort of... meh. Haven't read the book so I don't know how the movie compares.
Quick question: What happened with the Shade guy? Why did he suddenly become scarier-looking halfway thru the movie? Was that explained in the rumored cut footage? I do have one major complaint--not exclusively about this movie, but about all dragon themed films. COULD WE JUST ONCE HAVE A DRAGON MOVIE THAT ACTUALLY HAD DRAGONS IN IT? Why is it that every time there's a dragon movie, we get a brief prologue stating that "Many years ago, the skies were filled with dragons and their lords. They battled one another high above the ground, but eventually died out. This is the tale of the last of the dragons." WHY? Why does every dragon movie have to be about the LAST dragon? I want to see a movie about the time many years ago, when they filled the sky. THAT'S the movie I'd like to see someday. |

Having never read the books I had no preconcieved notions about what the movie would like - but despite being underwritten and barely adequately directed, it made for decent Saturday matinee viewing. I'm not going to recommend it to people and next month, I may not even remember I saw it, but for those 90 minutes, it held my attentions. Not saying much, buts its nowhere near the worst movie I've paid money to see this year. |

Also, he stole the name "Arya" from Robert RR Martin, who wrote the "Song of Ice and Fire" series. Bravo Paolini, for your enthusiastic originality. |
[QUOTE=exm]Paolini also ripped of the entire concept of Ursula LeGuin's "Earthsea Series", in which all elements, people, creatures had a "true" name and could be controlled if it was used.
[QUOTE] or, you know, Rumple-fucking-stiltskin. |

saw this the other day finally, it was alright. enjoyed the CGI, but i don't know if that will get me to go to a sequel as they set it up at the end of the movie.
i wonder if rachel will sign on for a sequel though... |
