The sequel, as there should be one, could be called Tenacious D: Two Halves of the Whole. It seems fitting and can show their further adventures in achieving "Rock God" status.

Jack black is "ok" when he -isn't- being "Jack Black". That said this movie looks stupid as hell.

I thought the movie was really good. Not flat out hilarious the whole time, but the music carries the flick, and it's a lot of fun. Loved Dave Grohl as Satan and thought the funniest part of the flick was Kickapoo...that sequence was pure brilliance.

My sister & I saw it & we loved it. We were actually worried that it would be a let down, but instead we were laughing all the time. paraphrased "now they're gonna cum again, in your ear pussies" lol

So this is how I saw it...
This movie is FUCKING PSYCHOTIC! If you like The D, the HBO shows, I don't think you can leave disappointed. They actually managed to make a 90 minute movie that is genuinely entertaining, funny, intense, and flat out ludacrous. Very true to the HBO episodes. The maddening, zany spirit reminded me of Tommy (which is probably my favorite musical). Pretty much all of the key characters from the show were in the movie. I can only think of one new character (which was a funny cameo). So that's how I saw it. |
I liked it okay, but I think the HBO shorts are far, FAR superior. It's almost like the movie tries too hard, and still has a lot of lull, whereas the shorts come off effortless, and are packed with laughs, beginning to end. Dave Grohl was great though.

it was better than I expected it to be. I'll say that much for it.

I just watched this and thought it was awesome. Ive never heard a tenacious d song before in my life, so i went in blind and had a blast with it. Some of the scenes were priceless, and the dream sequence i had to watch twice, the music was amazing.

Yeah I was also surprised at how much I liked it.
|
Yeah not as good as the HBO episodes, but worth a look if you're a fan of the D.

Thought it was terrible and I'm a huge D fan. Not very inventive, blandly directed and scripted. The actual driving plot point, the conceit that they think they need this magical pick to be great goes against the comedic root that spawned the duo. That is, that they were a little two guitar, acoustic act with two loser guys who firmly believed they were the greatest rock band- ever. That was, to me, the core of what made them funny and the film abandoned that.

I took it as taking place when the band was formed. As the movie depicts. Then after going after the pick they realize they don't need the pick and then started to "firmly believed they were the greatest rock band- ever". |
