I rented the movie from blockbuster and after starting to watch it, there were HORRIBLE compression artifacts near any fine details that had movement (most noticeable on faces). I was watching this on a HDTV and although I do not have a progressive scan dvd player, I have not had this problem with any other movies. Was this just me or has anyone else had issues with the video quality?

This DVD was overall pretty bad quality, I have a nice dvd player, but it was still noticeable. The Audio editing, especially at the beginning is terrible, just out of sync. It is especially bad when they show people from the back.
Overall, this was probably my least favorite Guest movie, but we'll see how it goes with rewatches.

even though I didn't particularily care for the film, I am quite interested in watching the 30 some minutes of delete scenes that are featured on the DVD.

I'll agree with two things that have been mentioned in this thread:
1. The movie was not Guest's best. It's easily my least favorite of his films.
2. The PQ is awful. I'm not sure how it was intended to look, but I had to check the settings on my Oppo player to make sure nothing had been changed.

Yeah was disappointed with this one... Guest needs to take it down a notch with Fred Willard, he was just getting on my nerves and added more Jane Lynch because I thought she was the best part of the movie.

what's interesting though is that the deleted scenes section from the DVD has quite a few really funny moments that cut for pacing reasons. The ventriloquist monkey bit is a hoot.

My girlfriend and I suffered through the first 20 minutes of it and just gave up. Wow, that was bad. Did it get better?

I felt like the final scenes with Willard's character (the TV interviews of the characters 3 months later) were just too mean-spirited, they pushed the entire movie a little too far over the edge. Amusing but yeah, not as good as the others (and really, isn't the basic plot pretty much the same idea as Waiting For Guffman?)

Just saw this. Not very good. Amusing in spots, but overall fell flat. There's a problem with your comedy when the stuff that's cut is funnier than the actual movie.
Probably the best part of this were the outtakes with Nina and Monk (the monkey ventriloquist act).

I agree (see post #31)
