When did this happen? Damn, they all come in threes. Ed Bradley, Basil Polidoris, and now the man himself. :( We will remember you Curly.

Nov 10, 5:14 PM EST

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Jack Palance, the craggy-faced menace in "Shane," "Sudden Fear" and other films who turned to comedy at 70 with his Oscar-winning role in "City Slickers," died Friday.

Palance died of natural causes at his home in Montecito, Calif., surrounded by family, said spokesman Dick Guttman. Palance was 85 according to Associated Press records. The family indicated he was 87.

"Lord, we give you Curly. Try not to piss him off."

Lateralus 11-10-06 05:09 PM

I have been wondering about him the last couple years, he lived a good long spectacular life. I can still remember him winning the Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1992 for City Slickers and doing the one armed push ups, Billy Crystal then made jokes about him docking with the space shuttle and other inhuman feats during the entire broadcast.

I'm going to miss Jack.

Believe it..... or not.

RocShemp 11-10-06 06:35 PM

Wow. I did not expect this at all. Especially so shortly after Poledouris. I am glad that he passed away with family. His passing is no less sad but at least he was with those that loved him most in his final moments.

Trout 11-10-06 07:00 PM

To honor his memory I think I will watch "Angels Revenge".

Brent L 11-10-06 07:10 PM

I thought that he died years ago, but I think I was thinking of Lloyd Bridges instead for some reason. Either way, the news is sad but you can't really feel too bad about it since he lived a long, successful, interesting life.

I knew he was in tough shape, I hear he suffered from Alzheimer's for years. He was a great actor and I hate to see him go.

Indeed. Many people who remember Palance remember his role as host of the Ripley's Believe It or Not TV series for several years.

Snowmaker 11-10-06 09:27 PM

I didn't even know he was still alive.

Whoa. I forgot all about that.

In recent years, I was re-introduced to Palance due to his work in Spaghetti Westerns and he sure created a favorite bad-guy of mine in Companeros

he was my number one (deep breath) guy.

(batman 1989 reference, oh yeah!)

I just re-watched Shane a few weeks ago. Jack was one of a kind.

For some reason, though, when I think about Jack Palance I remember him for his guest starrring role on Buck Rogers as Kaleel. Roddy McDowall was also in that episode, as was Buster Crabbe! Great cheesy, semi-campy fun - and Jack was SO into that part! He was great!

R.I.P. Jack - you will be missed!

What always comes to mind when I think of Palance is his appearance in the Amicus horror anthology film TORTURE GARDEN. Not the best overall Amicus anthology but the segment with him and Peter Cushing as rival collectors of Edgar Allan Poe memorabilia is a highlight. The suprise twist is golden.
