Seven Samurai Remake (2008)

From: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/..._New_Movie.php

The statement from Mandate also said Zhang will star in "Shanghai" with Clive Owen and "Seven Samurai," both produced by Harvey Weinstein's The Weinstein Co., without giving any detail.

"Seven Samurai" was earlier reported as a remake of the 1954 Akira Kurosawa classic about a group of warriors who defend a village attacked by bandits. Zhang will reportedly play a village girl who dresses as a man to protect herself.
IMDB has it listed but you have to have an IMDBPro account to see the info.

Another remake of the Seven Samurai? Has a lot to live up to considering how well the first remake went, hell if Westerns were still 'in' I'm sure they'd be doing a remake of the remake.

Wonder if there will be any giant robots.

Heard George Clooney will be in this somewhere. Heck why don't they go and remake Citizen Kane while they're at it?

Already been done. Samurai 7 is an anime remake which is actually pretty good. It sticks to the story where it needs to and fleshes out some other parts to make it series length and add some new depth to characters. In it, the bandits are samurai who give up their body for giant robotic armor.

At least The Magnificent Seven placed it in another setting and situation (with the actor caliber that can't be compared with today's.) This remake however, looks to be a hardcore copy.
