Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
The script for the next Superman film has been written and there is talk that Jonathan Nolan is on top of a list to direct it, but rumors have not yet been flying as to who will play the Man of Steel. Fans have made suggestions ranging from Jon Hamm to Tom Welling for the role, but there are many out there that want to see Brandon Routh, who played the role in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, come back to the role, and the actor can be counted amongst them. Talking with the actor at a round-table interview for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Routh said that he has not yet heard anything about the Christopher Nolan-David Goyer written reboot, but would love to play the character again. “I certainly would [love to play Superman again]. As much as I say I’m working to shake that off or shake it up, I certainly don’t want to extinguish or get rid of it because it was a great honor and I would love to be able to return as that character.” When told about an internet groundswell supporting his return, Routh said that he wants it to “turn into a tsunami,” adding “I think the brothers Nolan are both very talented and so that makes it a different kind of film that would be than Bryan’s vision, which I think was a very nice film that I’m very proud of." Superman Returns didn't exactly wow critics or audiences but it's nice to see that Brandon Routh isn't the kind of actor to burn bridges. He's seems to have genuinely loved playing the iconic role and doing it again wouldn't be just for the paycheck. So what do you think? Do we want to see Brandon Routh back in the cape? |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
also from cinemablend...discuss bitches...
Disappointing news in the world of superheroes today as we learn that Jonathan Nolan , skilled writer and baby bro to Christopher Nolan , will not be making his directorial debut on WB’s Superman reboot. When it was announced before that Jonah may have a shot at the gig, it was apparently nothing more than the fans taking hold of the plausible idea that he may possess the same skill as his brother. This all comes from an article over at DCWarnerBros.com, which encourages you to think of all of this as a rumor for now. It also suggests that the man in position to direct is David S. Goyer. Sure, putting Christopher Nolan in the producer’s chair will probably ensure that this latest Superman will be watchable, but why not give the job to his brother? The argument is that he has had zero experience directing a film, but why would you give the job to someone you KNOW makes terrible movies? Blade: Trinity, The Invisible, The Unborn? Seriously? Reportedly the honchos think Goyer’s learned from his mistakes, but I tend to not believe that. Like Jonah, he is a very skilled writer, but giving Superman to Goyer will garner a Ratner-esque result. The good news, apparently, is that Christopher will be offering Brandon Routh a screen test. However, the Dark Knight director is worried that hiring him would confuse people into thinking that this reboot has something to do with Superman Returns, which it absolutely does not. I would love to see Routh back in as the Man of Steel, but Nolan has a pretty good point. As far as I’m concerned, Nolan producing will get me to the theater, but the offer to Goyer would put the "skeptical" on me and that won’t be shaken until I see the finished film. Superman himself is already my least favorite and most boring superhero, and while I did enjoy Superman Returns, Goyer is the best way to make me not give a shit about this reboot. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Regardless who they cast, at least they're giving Routh a screentest.
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
It'd be interesting if they didn't cast him and the screen test leaked.
I do hope they cast him though. He's undoubtedly grown as an actor and if they pimped Nolan's name enough (because no matter what, the perception will be it's his film) I can't see people shunning the film because of it's small attachment to Returns. Most people would see Superman and just think it was a sequel anyway. It's the geeks who would really care, and they seem to be behind Routh. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Screen Test...damn. Just throw a copy of Returns on the desk and walk away.
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
That's nice of him and all, and I liked Routh in the role, but if Nolan wants this thing to feel fresh I seriously doubt he'd cast anyone from the prior film.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
See..SR didn't really showcase much of Routh as Superman. Great Kent but..he didn't do much as Supes. I hope he gets it. I believe in him. His unremarkable nature as Supes, beyond his physicality, was the script..not Routh. He did a good Kent for sure though. I'm happy they're giving him a chance. You can't hate Routh. Something about him..just makes you..like him a lot.

There is hope! That is great news to hear that Routh is being considered! Man I hope he plays Superman again. I think he makes an excellent Superman and I agree that in Returns he was kinda censored. He should have been punching left and right and kicking ass.

Him and the kid didn't talk much. |

what kid?! :)

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
With Goyer directing, this movie is going to suck with or without Routh. What's the big deal with Routh anyway? He's got the presence of a cardboard cutout.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I don't understand why WB endorses Goyer as a director. I have not been impressed with any of his directing efforts. His two most recent efforts were both duds, imo (The Unborn, The Invisible).

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I, for one, am thrilled Routh is getting a shot again. Fingers crossed.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I can only hope this tops the stellar Blade Trinity!

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Interesting...wonder if WB knew his "no monster, no movie" policy...though....what if it does have a creature?
Worst Previews: Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) was on board to direct "The Hobbit" films, but recently quit to work on "At the Mountains of Madness" with James Cameron, a project that del Toro has been planning for a while. Part of the reason del Toro exited "The Hobbit" was because Cameron convinced the director to work on his own passion projects and not be a "director for hire." But as soon as del Toro quit, Warner Bros immediately offered him the chance to direct the "Superman" reboot, which Christopher Nolan is overseeing. Del Toro obviously turned down the job, leaving many speculating whether Jonathan Nolan or David Goyer could end up helming the reboot. Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
i read somewhere about an older Superman, already a hero in the world, dealing with dark issues and him being mentioned...
http://themovieblog.com/wp-content/u...m-Superman.jpg http://www.filmdogsonline.com/wp-con...superman1t.jpg i could go for an aged Supes played by him. |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
I can see Hamm being Superman easily. I can't see him being Kent though.
|
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
No to Jon Hamm
No to Del Toro |
Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Hamm could play a Superman who's left the life of Clark Kent. I Could never see him as Kent though. I dunno if Del Toro would be a good choice but it'd be interesting.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!
Has anyone seen Jon Hamm on 30 Rock? Pretty far off from Don Draper. I think he could pull off Kent. Slouch a little, throw a little uncertainty in his voice. He could do it.
