Instead of a complete re-boot, just let Singer get "WRATH OF KHAN on it" as he once stated. Keep the cast. Do what can be done to address the subjects raised by SUPERMAN RETURNS. Raise the budget, lower the budget...whatever. JUST MAKE THE DAMN MOVIE BEFORE ANOTHER TWENTY YEARS PASS BY!

Bryan Singer doesn't understand the character, the universe, the idea of Superman one whit. His entire concept of what Superman is came from the first Superman movie alone, which is why he chose to regurgitate it instead of creating a movie that can stand on its own.

He should never be let anywhere NEAR the property again. And I don't even think SUPERMAN RETURNS was a bad movie, at times it was exhilarating, but it was entirely misguided and altogether frustrating.

Rashida Jones is a great choice for Lois. I still say keep Routh and Spacey in their respective parts if they do another sequel, and most of the supporting cast (Marsden, Langella, Posey) was good.

If they do Superman 6, Lex should be a supporting role though and certainly not the primary villain.

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

agreed. Lex has to be in background doing his stuff. It gets tiring of seeing Supes get his ass kicked by a man with no powers all the time. I mean, I can believe Batman beating the crap out of Superman, but not Lex all the time with the evil plans shit.

Since we're posting Rashida Jones videos in here now I'll throw this out there.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I've heard the arguments before. I don't care.

I just want a sequel. I just another SUPERMAN movie, and I don't mind seeing Singer giving it another shot, and I want to see Routh in the role again. There are approximately 11 pages on this thread addressing the same complaints and the same defenses.

I wish WB would just make the damn movie already. Commit to the sequel as originally promised three years ago.

Why can't Warner Bros just say to a prospective writer and director:

"Here's $120M to make the next Superman movie. That's all we have. Take it or leave it." If Money is an issue with making this movie.

I am puzzled because Superman Returns was shot on location in Sydney, Australia and I was under the impression it was cheaper to shoot overseas. So, why the hell did it cost over $270M to make that movie?

It's been discussed elsewhere, but I think I read that Singer's true budget was about $210 million. Any money spent over that (other than campaigns and commercials, etc) were from failed (thankfully so) efforts by McG, Tim Burton and a host of other writers.

Wow Routh looks great! I hope we don't have to wait more than 3 years for another Superman movie. They need to make Superman kick ass like in Superman II. Bring some villains. Show Routh getting pissed off and kicking them through buildings lol

Re: Superman Returns Sequel is a GO!

But honestly, there really is no need for another Superman movie. Just because he's the most well-known superhero, it doesn't mean they should make another film about him. He is after all one of the most poorly written superhero characters. Writers always go back to the origin story because they think that's the most interesting "Superman" story, which it isn't. That's how sad the writing is for Superman. There is nothing really that interesting about him or Clark Kent. There are so many other superheros that deserve tons of films a la James Bond films, but Superman - we've seen tons of versions done with Supes, and they are all not so interesting...

If they want to do something different, they should stick with outerspace and other worlds. The most interesting scenes in Superman 1 and 2 were the Krypton scenes...We need more of that type of world along with Darkseid's Appacalypse world for something different.

The same goes for Green Lantern. The most interesting stories that revolve around Superman or Green Lantern are ones that don't take place on Earth or involve Earthlings.

I guarantee that the Green Lantern cartoon movie is going to be better than the live-action Green Lantern film because of those reasons (cartoon movie will be alien/outerspace based; live-action movie will most likely be Earth based and all about "origin" story)

Maybe, but it doesn't make anything I said any less true... unless you think filmmakers showing a complete lack of imagination or understanding to be the hallmark of great movie-making. In which case, I'm sure there's some retarded Friedberg/Seltzer film out there with your name on it.

You gotta admit at the very least Singer saved Superman from disaster compared to what could've been. We got a good, new Superman out of the deal, he was in an "ok" movie that made good but not great $$, enough to give us potentially greater movies in the future.

That's because he gayified the movie so much.

Unfortunately, I'm less forgiving as the years go by. Yeah, we got an "OK" movie but it was a saddled mess loaded with flaws. Even forgetting the "regurgitation of the first film" argument, they barely let Superman speak at all (and Routh has a great voice), totally miscast Lois with a girl who barely looked like she was past sophomore year of college, started out with the misguided premise that Superman would leave Earth for 5 years (and didn't even mention the fact that it was Luthor himself who engineered the feat), the whole "Super-stalker" scene which was really disturbing, and of course the kid.

The movie had the Superman "trappings" (Daily Planet, Ma Kent, Metropolis, Jimmy Olson, Kryponite, the John Williams theme, etc.) but it didn't really "feel" like Superman at all. What it DID have going for it was that AMAZING plane rescue sequence which is easily one of the Top 5 greatest superhero movie scenes ever. That was easily the highlight of the movie.

Yeah it was an "ok" movie with promises of better movies in the future... but man we should have had a GREAT movie with promises of even better movies in the future. :(

You're kidding, of course. We're not talking about Shumacher's BATMAN sequels right?
