1. 9.1 The Godfather (1972)
2. 9.0 The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
3. 8.9 The Godfather: Part II (1974)
4. 8.8 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
5. 8.8 Casablanca (1942)
6. 8.8 Shichinin no samurai (1954)
7. 8.8 Schindler's List (1993)
8. 8.7 Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966)
9. 8.7 Pulp Fiction (1994)
10. 8.7 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
11. 8.7 Star Wars (1977)
12. 8.7 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
13. 8.7 Rear Window (1954)
14. 8.7 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
15. 8.6 12 Angry Men (1957)

Tell me which of those films you think ROTK is better than.

Then provide a list that ranks the movies in order that EVERYONE will agree on.
GOOD LUCK!

I'm not saying its possible to do that.

But imdb's list, which he posted as proof of ROTK's greatness, has ROTK at number 4.

Find me a movie critic who would put ROTK over any of those movies?

How about you tell me which of those movies you think aren't as good as ROTK?

Why bother, you think spidy 2 was better than ROTK. ( to use your logic)

This whole discussion goes back to where B.A. claims ROTK is mediocre.

I agree with Joe Molotov that any movie on IMDB's top ten list isn't mediocre

Yeah, it pretty much does, especially coupled with the 94% at RottenTomatoes and #4 on the Top 250 at IMDb. Of course nothing will stop people from saying the darndest things on internet message boards.
That sums it up best

Has this changed? I thought for sure it was supposed to be out next summer as well. How sad

Exactly! That's precisely the reason I posted it's IMDb rankings. So I could show that Internet Geeks love ROTK (IMDb), Critics love ROTK (RT %), Regular People love ROTK ($1.1 Billion Gross), and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences love ROTK (11 Oscars). Oh yeah, almost forgot about the Hollywood Foreign Press (4 Golden Globes).

But I see that's not enough for the haters. Because apparently...

Find me a movie critic who would put ROTK over any of those movies?
...unless I can find a movie critic who will specifically state that ROTK is better than Casablanca, Seven Samurai, and Schlinder's List then I just have no choice but to concede that ROTK is a mediocre movie. Amazing.

Exact rankings are meaningless for those films who've reached the highest levels of excellence, IMHO. I'll leave that to others.

Actually I think you are completely missing the essence of that list. They are a list of vert different types of films and ROTK is where it should be at the top of its sub genre.

You sure there's nothing else you can think of to needlessly draw this discussion out farther? Maybe I could ask my grandparents if they prefer Return of the King to Seven Samurai.

Spidey 3, followed by Pirates, and you can never go wrong with Shrek. While I have low expectations, I anticipate Transformers purely out of nostalgia, though I know darn well Mr. Bay has probably ruined it.
