He should go over to Sony.

MI: 3 has already made a small profit, and DVD sales will only help that. Cruise has starred in seven consecutive $100 million+ films, and 14 overall.

He was also quite good in 'Jerry Maguire' and 'Magnolia', but usually he's just Tom Cruise 'action movie star' and average actor. Sure he can carry a film, but his best days are behind him and I think Paramount realized that, thus the contract termination. He also received a a big share and points in a lot of their ventures, so Paramount wasn't receiving a huge profit in their bottom line. I believe he received 22 % of the profits on MI:3. I don't think Paramount would have dropped him If they believed he was stilll the sacred cash cow he'd been in the past. Despite his public meltdowns. |

What conduct was unacceptable? Sounds really strange to dump one of the top 5 biggest names in game over some Scientology beliefs and couch jumping.

Why is all of this coming out now, rather than, you know, a while back, when all of this was an "issue"? Things have been very quite on the Cruise front for the past several months.
And, while I think the guy should have kept his mouth shut, I haven't let that interfere with my enjoyment of his movies. Cruise's track record with movies speaks for itself, and I think Paramount might be making a mistake. |

I'm sure Tom Cruise will have another #1 super summer blockbuster - about the same time Michael Jackson's new album hits the top of the Billboard charts, and Mel Gibson wins his next Academy Award. -wink-

Cruise is the most uneven performer at the top of Hollywood. For every "Jerry McGuire" there is a "War of the Worlds." He's a mixed bag. |
What has he done that's so crazy?! As was said before, if I had a chance to jump on Oprah's couch, I probably would too. He was crazy in love and not afraid to show it - big deal. As for the anti-depressant stuff - he's right. It's just that no one else has the balls to say it in public. And as for the Scientology... well, yeah that's a bit crazy, but we're all a bit crazy. He's just under the microscope.
There has to be more to this, cuz you don't drop the biggest movie star in the world just cuz he's said and done some things that are a little unconventional. The guy has been in the news for shit like saving people in danger just as many times as for stuff like that of late. I mean it's not like he's made racist comments or anything. And I'm pretty sure successfully pulling off characters like Ron Kovic, Charlie Babbitt, Mitch McDeere, Jerry Maguire & Frank T.J. Mackey qualify you as a "great actor". |

Curious move by Paramount. Cruise's so-called "antics" might have lowered his standing in the public eye, but the man can open movies. MI-3 might not have been the top grosser they were expecting and his gross-participation might be skimming too much cream off the top... but he still makes $$$$ for the studios. No one can touch him, not Tom Hanks, not Jim Carrey, not any of the $20 million club. Groin, and potatoes can |
His deal is ending this month and they decided not to renew it.

I'm pretty sure Tom will be back. As stated multiple times, he is 'the world's biggest movie star' & had a good track record of being in hits. If Paramont doesn't want him, you know other studios are outside his door right now trying to sign him to them.

they ended negotiations several days ago when a Paramount offer came up short. Wagner said the production company has lined up private equity that will allow it to operate independently of any of the studios Whatever the reason I have never watched a Tom Cruise movie for Tom Cruise and never will. Top Gun was about jets, Days of Thunder was about racing, Rainman was about idiot savants etc. |

So I guess if Paramount finds Cruise's recent actions "unacceptable," they won't be doing any more movies with Mel Gibson, Robert Downey, Jr., or any other actor who acts like a jackass in his personal life? |
