This is the film of the year for me.
I have not seen a film in a cinema since November 2002, but this is the one that has prompted me to pre-book for opening night and change my habits of four years.
Having said that, I do think the appeal of the film is rather limited and the best case scenario is a $20.0 million opening weekend.
If by some chance it does do better, I will be the happiest man alive.

If step up could make 21 million off the generic teenage demographics because it's a dance film and it has some backing on myspace push. Then Snakes will easily make that amount and more.

I too am stunned by the low predictions here. I'm guessing a $40 million weekend and over $100 million domestic total box office. And that's if the movie is BAD. If it's good, the sky's the limit.

I would guess about 17 million...

If Ricky Bobby can do $43, Step Up $21, then Snakes on a Plane can do around $30. The internet marketing and general buzz about this is that it's a fun popcorn flick, not to be taken seriously at all. I mean to get a call from Sam the Man himself is enough to get me in the seat just so I can laugh along with the absurdity this film will be.

All I know is I got sick of the hype over this long ago. I'll wait to rent the DVD. I'm sure it'll break $30 million this weekend tho.

I'll say in the low to mid 20s, if it's lucky. Face it. Movies marketed and pushed primarily by internet geeks never do that well with the populace. Most movies that play to the internet crowd and niche ones, like those of Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino, even when they get critical acclaim, never really shoot past the $30 million mark opening weekend. I will be there at 10:00 PM on Thursday to be with the right crowd for this movie. I also think that one showing might be where this movie makes most of its per screen average.
What this movie does have going for it is a low budget ($30 million last I checked), with the internet doing most of the marketing on its own. Hopefully enough to have it earn about $55 to $60 million domestically and get us Snakes on a Train. Yes, I am being serious with that comment.

That being said, I'll be there to see SOAP on Sat. and predict $25 mil.
