His first 3 films definitely have a French influence kinda like the French new wave i guess he was on a Godard kick back in that era.

His y2k flicks have so far been Italian influenced in the b-movie era of the 60s-80s and have the Leonian aspect to them.

I gotta say he works better in his original era instead of the b-movie thing he loves so much because he worked by circumstance: his limited budgets actually helped showing his world of the streets.

When he got bigger budgets the movies lost some meaning, they're like cartoons or desserts. Heck even Leone was only doing his westerns by circumstance because when he was just AD in Spain they all got the idea that hey these deserts could work great for a western.

That's all I have to say.

Agreed.

I don't think he is a parody of himself and Bastards and Django are unbelievable films. But someone pointed out that his last 5 films have all been revenge films. It would be nice to see him do something a little different. Maybe a heist film, spy film, murder mystery. I don't know.

Also for his earlier screenplays he collaborated with Roger Avary (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction & True Romance [uncredited]). According to Avary he wrote most of those & QT took most of the credit. And Jackie Brown was an adaptation.

Re: Has Tarantino become nothing more than a Parody of himself ?

Avary has never said he wrote most of the early scripts. He does say they were true collaborations and takes credit for certain developments in stories and scenes, but ultimately it is impossible to say who wrote what. I believe the Chris Walken scene in Pulp Fiction was written by Avary. The whole Butch story originated with Avary. He still feels a little weird (not betrayed as he has been quoted) about only getting story credit for PF, as he should have got a written by credit too, but he made a bad deal and is really just happy to have contributed to the film. Ultimately QT directed it, so he deserves credit for that. The script was the blueprint, someone had to make it work.

You have to go into the big script they did, Pandemonium Reigns, to really see where a lot of the early Tarantino stuff came from.

Anyway, I think QT is still making phenomenal films, they are just different.

Django is on sale at Target for 13 bucks and I still couldn't pull the trigger (no pub intended) because as much as i liked the performances, this was the first Tarantino flick that I was disappointed with. It's too long and the atrocious soundtrack took me out of the "western" mood while watching. His style on this flick just got stale really fast for me. Hopefully he'll bounce back on the next picture.

Re: Has Tarantino become nothing more than a Parody of himself ?

I just can't believe that Tarantino got his figures banned on Ebay. I mean, really? Tarantino banned? For simple toys of Django? I don't know about you but the fact that his stuff was banned on ebay is just bizarre!

For me, I just don't see why Tarantino would have his toys banned. I don't get it, really. I mean the toys could have been coarse or they may not have perfectly conformed to the rules of ebay but I seriously don't get them being banned.

There are way worse toys on ebay that are not banned!

Some toys are totally nuts and I don't get how they are on ebay at all.

I haven't ever been a fan of his toys but I respect that he has them. Some of them look pretty good too!
Here are the toys in question.

Gotta say, I'm always entertained by Tarantino's flicks. Always. I will always buy a ticket to his films, no matter the subject matter.

That being said, after seeing Beatrix Kiddo emerge from the grave of Paula Shultz, I always wanted to see Tarantino's take on a Zombie/Fulci flick.

I think QT's films post-Jackie Brown are these weird, overblown, ultra-violent live action cartoons that are all about revenge.

I don't think Tarantino of today could ever make Reservoir Dogs the way it turned out--the violence is taken seriously; the characters are believable; and it's under 2 hours.

Yep, his films have bloated significantly over the years. I guess it's just harder and harder for anyone to say "no" to him. Jackie Brown is amazing, btw. Easily his most mature and fascinating movie.

I wish he would go back to the crime films in the style of the first two, Jackie Brown is where he started moving into the exploitation portion of his career. That being said, I love all of his movies (even Death Proof) and I eagerly anticipate anything new he has in the works.

I would hope he'd make it in the vein of a '50s or early '60s sci-fi movie with actual sets.

I'd like to see him do a chamber piece / psychological drama. A whole movie that is something like the dinner scene in Django or the tavern sequence in Inglourious Basterds (without the killing).

That would be fantastic!

Seeing him do something along the lines of Cul-de-Sac would be great.

Since you mentioned Polanski, something along the lines of Cul-de-Sac or Death & the Maiden.

The greatest director of all time becoming a parody of himself? Hell no.

That honor goes to Scorcese

No one will ever top M. Night Shymalan's feat of self-parody.

What would a Tarantino adaptation of STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE look like? I'd pay to see it.

Well, first off he'd have to rename it "A Car Trunk of Desire". (sorry...obvious joke)

Yeah, the whole time I was watching Hugo I just kept thinking, "Wow, all he's doing is rehashing Kundun and Raging Bull."

I saw Zoe Bell on some show recently. She looked rough. Never got the appeal. It was smart to cover her face in Django.

That's crazy!

And you misspelled his name too.
