Remake this: "The Return of the Living Dead" Your thoughts?

Hey gang, head on over to my ROTLD page at

http://members.tripod.com/~evilbaby/ROTLD.html

click on the news section and scroll down to the bottom of the page. I put together a quickie poll asking if you'd like to see a remake of the horror classic "The Return of the Living Dead." I give a few reasons why I would like to see one made as well but I'd like some numbers from the fans.

Don't dismiss the idea without thinking first though. Post your thoughts here but I'd REALLY appreciate you taking a minute to vote in the poll. Thanks!

I voted "no" in your poll. I come from the school of thought, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I see no reason why the film should be remade at all. I love the original the way it is and would hate to see it redone. A huge part of the reason why I love ROTLD is the who 80's punk vibe it has going for it. However with the remake, I'm sure that feeling will be lost. With that said though, I felt the same way about the Dawn of the Dead and TCM remakes and ended up actually enjoying them once I saw them. However, I still prefer the originals to the remakes. I feel that instead of remaking ROTLD, they should focus on making an actually good sequel to it. The latest two installments were downright embarrassing. Luckily, ROTLD does not have a unique concept, (like being stuck in a mall), that would need to be in the remake. So why not just make a direct sequel to the first film and continue the story? That would be far more appealing to me then a remake would. Just don't go direct to video again...ugh.

No Linnea Quigley No Sale:

The cast was freaking perfect! I couldn't see anyone replacing Burt, Frank, Ernie, and Freddy. They were all so funny. And Trash

No reason at all for a remake - it was a solid concept that was turned into a solid script that was made into a solid movie.

If anything is going to be remade, it should be something that had potential, but went amiss somehow.

Please, no. No, no, no. ROTLD is a product of its moment in time, and it's almost perfect. What a remake would be like, I shudder to think. An all "Emo" soundtrack?

Re: Remake this: "The Return of the Living Dead" Your thoughts?

OKAY I'm going to revive this dead issue. Return of the Living Dead, One of my FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME!!! I know, I know The movie is time less and it is a fact that remakes really do suck! I think you guys are going about this the wrong way. A remake is possible! The orginal will always be the original! The remake has to be done from another angle though. Make it a little less comic and a lot more twisted. All Emo Soundtrack? Yeah that would suck, but there are lots of indie bands that are not Emo and hit hard and wild like the original sound track. With newer technology and better FX this could be a decent remake. The trick is to take nothing from the original but the basic idea of the story.

Nothing in the rules prohibits it. But I guess mostly because it's not a problem. For fucks sake you could just choose not to click the damn thread.

No. There's already a deluge of cheap zombie "comedies" out there. Enough is enough.

I think that Google is to blame (they find us via Google search ... even if it's an old thread) and then post here.

Yes I do agree! But hollywood and TV is full of copy cats with unoriginal ideas.
I agree Zombie flicks have been very abundant in the last 10 years.
But so have remakes. There have been tons of remakes and reimaginations of classic movies and older enjoyable films. some good some bad. There are tons of movies based on Comic books and Cartoons.
TV is full of COP Dramas, Medical Dramas, and Investigative Dramas.
The point I guess I was getting at was that If I'm going to watch the same 'ol repetative stuff on TV and at the movies, well then why not ROTLD?

Re: Remake this: "The Return of the Living Dead" Your thoughts?

I'd have no problem with a remake, because I don't think of ROTLD as some sort of untouchable classic. The problem is that you couldn't make a remake anywhere near as good as the original. So why bother. But a remake wouldn't bother me in the least.
