OK...just came across this trailer on youtube and thought it looked pretty damn good.
Here's the official website:

Fred Roos, the original producer of Star Wars, is doing this one as well and I actually laughed out loud at the trailer.
Interested to see what happens with this.

I had emailed the director a while back asking about the release, since IMDB had down May 2006:
David--
The IMDB is notoriously inaccurate. I would bet on a release date somewhere betweeen November of 2006... and... oh... say... 5-25-07.
Thanks for your interest and please keep the faith. I promise it will be worth the wait.
Best wishes,
Patrick Read Johnson

Here's my main problem with the film: teenagers didn't talk like that in 1977. The whole geekdom thing regarding sci-fi movies was still a good ten years away. It's like they took modern-day "sci fi geeks" and threw them back into 1977.
Still, the movie looks like fun, although it's definititly going to have a limited audience. I did enjoy the Jaws in the swimming pool bit.

Oh, I remember plenty of sci-fi geeks from that era. "Star Trek" probably kicked it off, and you had "Dr. Who" and of course the rise of "Star Wars," followed quickly by 'Battlestar Gallactica" and "Space: 1999."

Space 1999 definately predated Star Wars. It came on the heels of Star Trek. And Dr. Who predated Star Trek by about 5 years. And for sci fi TV, I would say in America, maybe Lost in Space started it all, with shows like Outer Limits and Time Tunnel adding to early geekdom.

By the way, is it sad that I knew what the date was before I clicked on the thread?
