Dakota Fanning Rape Scene
Dakota does disturbing role
(KP International) Hounddog sounds like an innocent enough title but apparently the film shows 12-year-old Dakota Fanning in her most disturbing role yet. The dark film features such themes as violence, abuse and the music of Elvis Presley. Filming brought new challenges for Fanning, who will apparently appear nude for the first time and also had to film a rape scene. "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals. In this movie, both things happen," said a source to the New York Daily News. "The subject matter is very tough," said Lawrence Robins, an entertainment entrepreneur who had to search for investors once money fell through due to the controversial content. "I was attracted to it because in the end it's a story about human understanding, about a little girl who's dealt a very bad deck of cards, but finds solace in the music of Elvis and survives." But controversy often sparks Oscar buzz, which is what Fanning's mother, Joy, and agent, Cindy Osbrink, are supposedly hoping for. "It's not just the rape scene the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress," Osbrink said. "And I've never been so proud of her in my life. I've seen the dailies, and in every scene she gets better and better." Discuss... |
reaction 'ewwww'

Aren't there laws against this sort of thing..? -ohbfrank-

You've got to be kidding me. Whats next, a toddler getting raped on screen?
Also, I can't believe a parent would want their child in a movie where they're getting raped. I guess her mom is your typical hollywood parent who sees her child as nothing more than a meal ticket. I don't care if it's fake or not, that's the kind of thing that could fuck someone up if they don't know how to handle it. |
Based on her performance in War of the Worlds, I think she's perfect for the role.
|
Too soon.
|
Are they kidding? Can they legally do this?
|
legal answer: They can do this if and only if there is no nudity. You can't show minors nude as far as I know.

Thora Birch was 17 when she appeared nude in American Beauty. Her parents had to be on set along with child labor representatives.
There is quite a difference between 12 and 17 though, and Birch's scene didn't involve simulated rape. |
Are you sure about that? I thought it was ok as long as it had artistic merit?
|
Good for her! Too many young actresses are having to wait until they turn 18 to be exploited in graphic sex scenes. Hopefully this will break down another barrier of discrimmination in Hollywood.
|
I thought this thread was going to be about her rumored casting in The Lovely Bones. Kind of strange that she'd be doing two movies where she plays a little raped girl.
|
Hey, anything to generate a little oscar buzz. -ohbfrank-

pics?

Brooke Shields appeared nude on screen at about the same age in Pretty Baby, so who knows?
I'll pass, thank you very much. |

Great.. more screaming and crying from this girl. Had enough of that with WotW.

I love how proud her parents are, way to exploit your 12 year old. There's no way a 12 year old is ready for a simulated rape scene, that's fucking insane and actual child abuse in my opinion.

Neo: "Whoaaa."

It's called "acting", people. Geez.

I recall that it was even illegal to post the video of that scene online (as in the websites that specialize in nude scenes in movies wouldn't show it until she turned 18).

seems a little crazy to be doing, but who knows.

This will kill her career and will change laws, just like the Superbowl Malfunction. |

I think people are confusing 12 years old with 5 years old.
|
How old was Jena Malone when she filmed 'Bastard Out Of Carolina'?
|
What is the source for the article? It kinda reads like something from The Onion....
But if it is genuine, eeewww!! |
I guess she's really trying to be the next Jodie Foster.

Yeah, true. When I was young we had girls that were sluts by the time they were 13 and some were hooking up with older guys in their late teens. No kidding. Hell, my first sexual experience happened when I was 11 and it was a 13 year old girl who came on to me. She is smart enough and matured beyond her years. I think she can handle it, otherwise I doubt she would've accepted the role. Should they be doing it? Probably not. Still, I seriously doubt this will scar her for life, because as you said, she's 12, not 5. She knows what she's doing is acting. I'm just surrpised her parents ok'd it. I hope they had at least had a long and serious talk with her to make sure she was really up for such a demanding role. I'll tell you what though this girl really wants to be known as a serious actress; That's for sure. Maybe they're banking on the controversial scene to help get her an Oscar. Worked for Halle Berry. :) I'd honestly be surprised if this scene actually sees the light of day and if it does I get the feeling it won't be as bad as we all imagine. They'll probably have a body double do parts and use clever editing and camera tricks. |
I agree with those that say she can probably handle it but I also agree with those that say the scene should never be. Unless the whole nudity issue is BS and the rape will be mostly offscreen. Adult actors have appeared in carefully shot/edited rape scenes before. The same could be true for this scene.

How old was Linda Blair when she did "The Exorcist". 12, no? Even she admits that movie fucked her up.

So who is she raping in this movie?
|
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Apparantly, the criteria for winning an Oscar have gone way downhill. I don't want to see a nude 12 year old, faked, body doubled or tastefully shot. It's just pure exploitation, regardless of the film's subject matter.
|
WTF? Who would want to watch something like this? I'm not going to see it and the best part is, her parents are proud and are hoping for an oscar! Jesus, no wonder why so many child actors turn to drugs and end up killing themsleves.

I think she'll be alright. But it's nice that the morality police and armchair foster parents are looking out for her. |
