Need help with a Star Wars like film

Ok, my mind is blank about this one but I do recall a movie I saw in the past that was in space and had various aliens from the galaxy? come together to fight against the bad guys. I don't think it was a made for tv movie, I think it was an actual film. Maybe not exactly like Star Wars but I figure many science fiction viewers may remember this one.

A Sci-fi film with aliens and fights? Nope. Sorry doesn't ring a bell.

Battle Beyond the Stars, AKA The Magnificent Seven in Space with Robert Vaughn reprising his role from the original, AKA Seven Samurai in Space.

I was also thinking Battle Beyond the Stars, a blantant Star Wars rip off, but actually quite painful to watch.

So far, The Last Starfighter sounds like it, I found a trailer online but that didn't show any aliens so I'm not too sure yet. It does sound like it and the dvd cover looks like it too. Thanks everyone, I knew you all wouldn't let me down.

I know it wasn't a comedy so it knocks out many of the possible films listed. That helps narrow it down, and it definitely was not any of the Star Trek ones. Just looked at the trailer for Battle beyond the Stars and that looks familiar. So it's a toss up between that and The Last Starfighter I posted above.

How about Buck Rogers in the 25th Century or Battlestar Galactica? Or maybe Space Raiders?

How about The Phantom Menace? I think that counts as Star Wars-like, but not actually Star Wars

I would guess that people still make jokes about it is because they know how muck it bothers die-hard Lucas fans. If everyone ignored them, they'd probably stop.

To find out, all you need to ask is:

"Does the space ship have boobies?"

Ice Pirates was my guess also, had the lead guy from the A-Team in it as the Cowboy.

Definitely "Battle Beyond the Stars" you're thinking of.

A lot of people, myself included, have a what was that movie -- sort of a Star Wars rip-off, might've been made-for-TV about a bunch of aliens who help some other aliens out moment.

This thread reminded me of another Star Wars rip off, the Japanese flick "Message From Space" directed by Kinji Fukasaku. It came out a year after SW.

That was BBtS with George Peppard, not Ice Pirates.
