How can you say what's the big deal? You think the evolved zombie was stupid and you're saying this is about as stupid. How does one "dumb" idea make another somehow not as big a deal? Also, this vegetarain zombie sounds atleast as smart as the ones in Land actually.
Also the "evolved" zombie started in Day, although I would argue the Land ones aren't much smarter than the original Night breed.

I think the "dead" part probably covers at least 90% of what makes them zombies and what they do after that is just the decoration on the cake. How can you say what's the big deal? Eating flesh isn't the only thing that makes a zombie a zombie.
But, the very first zombie in the 1968 NOTLD showed signs of intelligence...He broke the window of Barbara's car by picking up a brick...The little girl in the basement used a weapon to kill her mom and then ate her... The ones in Land of the Dead all used weapons. It didn't just start in 'Day'.

Also, I'm not sure how many of you saw "Day of the Dead 2: Contagium", but this Day of the Dead remake is really reminding me of that. It's sounding like something made for the sci-fi channel.
Day of the Dead 2 is the worst movie I have ever seen. Also, the director of Day of the Dead 2 is a producer on this Day of the Dead remake.

If they were still doing films with "un-evolved" zombies most people would complain about the concept being boring. I admit that I'm no horror expert, but did watch the Dawn remake and loved it enough to buy the japanese import.

Also, I was reading an interview with the writer, and it has been stated that this film has absolutely nothing to do with the Dawn of the Dead remake. It doesn't take place in the same universe as that did. So these could be slow zombies, not really sure.
Seems like fast moving zombies that can jump over things are already pretty damn evolved to begin with!

Im OK with a Vegetarian Zombie. Especially since it takes orders and such. It seems to somewhat follow Romeros original Day of the Dead script (With 'smart' Zombies taking orders called 'Bees'. I reccomend a read-through!).

Sure, and I'm cool with that. But I'm not cool with evolving Zombies. Also, was that really Evolution, after all, they were only coming back for a few hours at that point so I don't know how they could evolve that fast. Could it be a zombie vaguely remembering what a brick or spade can do? That vauge memory of things from being alive is a common and important theme in the whole genre.
Having said that, I'll admit that the talking Zombies in "Return of the Living Dead" were cool.
"Send more...paramedics."

Remember the all the bitching and moaning the hardcore folks did when they found out DAWN 04 would have Running Zombies? That was kinda new and they didn't like it. They tolerated it but they didn't like it.

I liked both Dawns for different reasons. I would honestly like this to follow the same style as the Dawn remake so that I have two different ways of approaching the movie again.

The original is a smart horror film with elements of action and satire.
The remake is a fun action film with elements of horror and some good bits of comedy.

The original is a slow multi-faceted commentary that tells me the director is saying something.
The remake is a flashier faster more modern zombie movie with lots of crazy crap going on.
Two different ways of taking off from the same idea. Plus, we never got any "flyboy" comments in the remake. Can't be the same film without that.

I just got through to the site and saw the trailer. It doesn't look too great, but I'll probably see it (or rent it - I suspect a possible straight to DVD release) because I do so love zombie films.
The storyline seems somewhat different from the Romero film, though the military still plays a big role. I'm fine with that, but the whole thing looks off - dialogue, music, acting. The zombies are ridiculously hyperactive with a bunch of them jumping out of second-story windows at one point. And Mena Suvari is not very convincing as a soldier.

I'll give it a shot. I wasn't to keen on the Dawn Of The Dead remake until I saw it, now it's definitley a top guilty pleasure of mine. I'm hoping this is in the same vein.
