Which sounds good to me, because Children of Men had a "Dawn of the Dead"-ish feel to it.

Jam Master Jay 04-01-07 01:01 PM

damn that was a pretty good trailer, I was pretty skeptical when I heard that Boyle wasn't returned but this could be pretty good!

tylergfoster 04-01-07 01:45 PM

Looks okay. For whatever reason the images in the trailer seem kinda uninteresting, except the last few seconds, which were available online like a week ago.

I noticed he had a US Army uniform on. That seemed kind of strange to me. He is the man either way.

I saw this last night. I enjoyed it, really didn't have super high expectations, but it was entertaining enough. A couple of slap-in-the-forehead moments.

Real creepy towards the end though.

Spoiler:
The two women and the boy entering the subway tunnel when only one of them can see. The whole scene is filmed through a night vision scope. Very tense.

7.5/10 (Gave the first one an 8.5/10)

I'm indifferent on whether or not this is a 'must-see' at the theatre, unless you are a huge fan of the first.

FuQ 05-09-07 03:03 PM

They are not zombies, they are infected with Rage.

raven56706 05-09-07 03:14 PM

or it might be the riods talking

Fincher Fan 05-10-07 06:27 AM

Just saw this. Great film! I think it's even better than the first as it's more epic. It's a must-see for the helicopter scene alone!

slop101 05-10-07 10:09 AM

This dude at CHUD did NOT like it at all, giving it a 4/10 (and I usually tend to agree with him).

Zodiac_Speaking 05-10-07 12:15 PM

I was against the idea of a sequel to 28 Days Later but that trailer, the buzz, the reviews, this could be the shot in the arm of 2007 horror, 2007 horror desparately needs.

Charlie Goose 05-10-07 12:55 PM

I don't know if these ZOMBIES are as scary as the Romero ones.

Okay, okay, INFECTED.

The Romero joints will eat you, but these guys just throw you a beating to infect you. They don't bite, do they?

Yes, a great scene...in Stephen King's book "The Stand."

This sequel is crud and tarnishes Boyle's film in a big way.

I liked it better in Grindhouse.

Saw a screening tonight and it holds up well as a sequel, IMO. It doesn't sustain the momentum of its predecessor, but is compelling in its own right.

Matthew Chmiel 05-11-07 04:55 AM

I would say the film is in fact a solid sequel.

You know what, I take that back.

This film had the potential to blow the original one right out of the water. The story is there, the ideas are there, and the characters are definitely there. However, the film is a victim of it's short running time. There are some scenes that are down right terrifying, violent, and all sorts of mean-spirited. These are the scenes that will be remembered down the road. However, this is a film that takes great ideas and never allows these ideas to flourish and kick all sorts of ass.

The major problem I had leads directly to the pacing of the film. The opening ten minutes gets the film to one hell of a start, but the rest of the first act is almost of a chore to sit through before the bloody mayhem starts in act two. The problem that lies here is once we get into the starting gates of act two, the film feels rushed to fit that 90-minute running time. When the fun starts to happen, everything is going by way too quickly -- no way to really digest anything that is whirling around you. Sure, it's very enjoyable, but there's no real substance. This is what leads to the second problem. A lot of the build up that the first act was going for, especially in terms of the social commentary, is thrown right out the fucking window once the gears get going. The film seems to be confused at this point, if it wants to go for those stabs at the American government -- or -- if it just wants to be a thrilling horror film. Obviously, one needs to really make up their mind with what path they want to choose. However, as the past has told us, there are films out there that can have it's cake and eat it too -- Children of Men anyone?

Granted, once the rage spreads, the film is running on all cylinders with some brilliant fucking scenes that are wonderfully directed and shot. However, the last ten minutes of the film is where the ride decides to come to a screeching halt.

Spoiler:
After the nightvision scene, which is great, everything after that feels compromised so the film can end as soon as possible. Yes, I realize the brother got the sister and the helicopter pilot infected. Yes, I realize they crashed somewhere in Europe. Yes, I realize now all of Europe is getting infected with the rage. However, the way it's presented on screen is a fucking cop-out and a half. Wonderful idea, terrible execution. I want to be present once the real shit hits the fan. I don't want the film to flash a title card and take us to the aftermath. Fuck that.

I enjoyed it for what it was, a quick 90-minute thrill ride, but it had the potential to be something larger and greater if given the proper time to develop. I recommend seeing it with a crowd as the midnight screening I attended was having a real blast with it. As I mentioned before, there are some wonderful scenes here, but the right execution isn't exactly there.

Spoiler:
But any film that decides to kill all the main characters is a-ok by me too.

MrE 05-11-07 09:11 AM

BEST sequel ... so far ... of the year. Watch the film on its own substantial merits and you may find out you like it. Avoids most of the usual cliches and crafts an all-too-close-to-home scare that sticks around. There was definitely enough here to make these old brain cells fire a few synapses.

maingon 05-11-07 11:36 AM

i cant wait, getting good reviews on RT

DVD Talk reviews: the good and the bad.

maingon 05-11-07 02:45 PM

Just got back and I liked it. the beginning was intense and I liked seeing what happened after the 28 days, I liked seeing them bring people back and the kids going back into the town. Very creepy movie. the subway scene that is shown just with the night vision on the scope of the gun is very scary and intense. The only thing is I didnt like the ending. So I guess its spread again to france

SteelWill 05-11-07 03:04 PM

Spoiler tag that dude.

Geofferson 05-11-07 03:12 PM

There seem to be two key scenes that people take away from this movie: the helicopter and night vision scene. I liked them both as well, but in other movies...
Spoiler:
Grindhouse & The Descent respectively.

maingon 05-11-07 03:42 PM

i think it did the helicopter scene better here then in grindhouse, It was a intense moment in 28 weeks and Night vision was alittle different since this was ona scope of a gun so you couldnt see much which made it really tense. as in The descent they had goggles and they were able to see better. I thought it was a very creepy moment in 28 weeks.

Superboy 05-11-07 04:15 PM

I liked it. It was a great zombie movie.

Speaking of the former film mentioned...
Spoiler:
The ending feels as it's gag from Grindhouse. Just that the title card "28 Days Later" replaces "Missing Reel."

matome 05-11-07 07:47 PM

Can't wait to check this out tomorrow.

Seantn 05-12-07 05:06 AM

The helicopter scene in 28 Weeks Later blows Grindhouse's out of the water, in my opinion. In Grindhouse I remember thinking "Oh, that's cool, a fun idea." In this movie, I was thinking "Holy shit, that's fucking awesome!".

I loved this movie, really loved it. The beginning scene made the entire theater jump out of their seats with the first reveal of the infected.
