And though I've been open-minded up until now, Craig took me out of the trailer everytime he appeared or spoke. He may be good for people that don't really like James Bond movies, but he just doesn't work for me.

It will be interesting to see how well this film goes over with the mainstream public. Most people have a pretty strong idea of what James Bond should be, and it's not the character from the books.

Same feelings here. I'll definitely give it a shot, but I have a feeling I will be missing Brosnan, who, IMO was a perfect Bond that got saddled with overly ridiculous storylines and lackluster support for his past couple of films.

I dunno what the rest of you want, but DAMN this looks good. I think this has just become my must-see of the season. The movie looks fantastic. No crappy CGI, unrealistic super-gadgets (i.e. "the Vanish"), just badass Bond.

Craig looks great in this role. I'm gonna give him the chance to prove it with my $10. :)

Please be R, please be R, sure i can see Eva Green nude in the Dreamers ect, but an R rated Bond movie would kill.

purplechoe 09-08-06 05:05 PM

I saw the trailer before it was posted here and LOVED IT! Maybe the movie itself won't be that good, (time will tell) but the trailer has me really pomped up for it. This looks like it's going to be the best bond film since License to Kill. It's been a long time since I was looking foreward to a new bond film this much. I had doubts about Craig but after seeing the trailer, this is my most anticipated film of the fall for sure. Here's hoping it kicks all kinds of ass...

PS. The last Bond film I saw in a theatre was "Tomorrow Never Dies" and the last 2 have been borderline terrible/mediocre.

That tells me that the opening scene might show
Spoiler:
Bond getting into a fender bender with the bad guy at the beginning and not recognizing him before he gets away

Mercury&Solace 09-10-06 01:43 AM

Looks kick ass, can't wait.

Cardiff Giant11 09-11-06 05:18 PM

i'm still not crazy about Craig, but I think he'll be able to pull it off given a better storyline than the past few bonds. I dug Brosnan but it definitely seems like Craig is going to give Bond more of an edge.

Just like...THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and LICENSE TO KILL. :)

Which happen to be two of my favorite Bond movies, so I'll probably LIKE Casino Royale. The problem here is that people seem to forget they tried the "realistic" Bond before and audiences didn't bite.

Groucho 09-12-06 12:16 PM

I would say there have been four "realistic" Bond films:
  • From Russia With Love (Excellent)
  • For Your Eyes Only (Good)
  • The Living Daylights (Pretty Good)
  • Licence to Kill (Poopy)

GIjon213 09-12-06 12:20 PM

Each trailer encorages me just a little bit more. I know where I will be on Nov. 17th. Hopefully going to the movies after picking up my PS3. :fc:

I think I read somewhere there is a scene where Bond has to clean up after one of his bloodier 'hitjobs' qualifying this one being grittier than past films.

By realistic, I mean relatively, of course. In that these four Bond films are less reliant on gadgets and such, and more reliant on Bond's wits and brawn.

fernsita 09-12-06 02:49 PM

Understood. I get what you are saying now. I think that the gadgetry used in the past few films has been a way to attract more viewers. This movie is supposed to be more reminiscent of earlier Bond films, so it may be more to your liking.

Digigeek06 09-12-06 04:04 PM

I think it looks better than i first thought it would be and i am going to give Craig a chance,i believe he may be a different type of Bond but in a very good way.

Goldberg74 09-23-06 07:38 PM

The theme song for "Casino Royale" is "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell... you can here a snippet of it here.

digitalfreaknyc 09-23-06 07:49 PM

I've never been interested in Bond at all and I'm looking forward to this.

It could also be that shot of Daniel in the skintight bathings suit. ;)

fernsita 09-25-06 09:55 AM

Hahaha...yeah, that may be why I am interested in it also! It just keeps on getting better though. The poster looks really cool and there's a new game you can play online that's pretty fun. A friend of mine sent me the link on Friday and we played for a while.

This is a snippet from Hollywood-Elsewhere:

"Casino Royale (Columbia, 11.17) screened in London last night (Saturday, 11.4) and the Telegraph has run some reactions. "It's terrific," said one critic. "This is going to be the prequel to all other Bonds. There are a lot of fans who prefer either Moore or Connery but Daniel Craig could be better. This is the story of how Bond got started, before he became 007. Craig is such a good actor...he plays Bond as strong but emotionally vulnerable. For the first time you see his sensitive side."

The more I see the previews, the more excited I get. I love Craig's acting. He's great in Munich and Layer Cake.

Shannon Nutt 11-06-06 03:17 PM

"[He's] a strong actor, he holds the screen well, he's good in the serious scenes...rugged, dark and saturnine, and speaks with a cool authority." - Roger Ebert

"[He] registers beautifully on all key counts of charm, machismo, sensitivity and technique." - Variety

"The best Bond ever. He's as classy as the trademark tuxedo, as sleek as the Astin-Martin." - Washington Post

"Bond is played in a more realistic style and is much closer to Fleming's original take on the character...very much the professional agent - suave, intelligent, occasionally brash, and tough as nails under the surface." - Tom Coates, BBC

Nope, those AREN'T early reviews of CASINO ROYALE...they're quotes from the initial reviews of THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS. So don't put TOO much into those glowing early reviews...there's something very familiar about this whole "new and more realistic" Bond that the franchise is trying to push on the moviegoing public...

Dr. DVD 11-06-06 03:30 PM

Saw this one yesterday (the trailer) and I am going to agree with the camp that this is the closest to the Fleming incarnation of Bond in a while. Craig really is impressing me, and he has the classic pulp action star look down. My only fear is that modern audiences are so used to the wisecracking bond with gadgets and all that this one might not register with them.

But, those statements are accurate. Except for the one about "the best Bond ever", which isn't inaccurate, just debateable.

Groucho 11-06-06 04:35 PM

I would say that it's easier to pull of a change in tone with a "reboot" story like Casino Royale as opposed to a loose sequel as the Dalton movies were.

Which is why I'm so excited! I personally like the Dalton films much more than any of the Moore or Brosnan Bond films and more than most of the Connery films.

I'm excited to see what Daniel Craig can do.
